this is an old old video BUT incase anyone has clunking rear ends on an E46 check the diff mounts themselves, the mounting areas of the subframe diff mount where it meets the floor cracks and well can cause clunking noises if it breaks off completely and becomes separated.

Não é o caso. Tenho o mesmo problema no meu carro. tenho zero folgas desde caixa velocidades até as rodas o barulho é significativo nas mesmas condições deste youtuber

Looks like a bushing that is needed to be replaced. In the video the left one looks cracked.

It’s a 46 just replace everything that will solve your problems replacing just one item causes more problems polybush it and send it

That was my approach and now idk what is causing the clunk or even if it’s normal (I really don’t think mine is lol)

Hi, did you also hear these clunking noises when standing still? Or only when putting stress on it? I have a 323i 1999 manual (europe) And i hear these clunks everytime when changing gears, and sometimes when standing still and putting the car in it's gear. Any ideas?
@JodyGomes7 жыл бұрын
Deniz Yildiz When taking off only. Maybe you have a cracked subframe? 99 cars and very prone to that
what exactly did you change to fix the issue pal? and how much did it cost? ive got exact same issue. please let me know. cheers.

ibbyali2k9 Hi, I have not fixed it as it is not a major issue. I just found the cause. It's the output flange from the differential.

Jody Gomes thanks for reply. does it clunk loud when you change first or second gear? mine does.

So you are referring to the mating flange at the front of the diff to the rear of the driveshaft? How would you go about replacing that front flange? is it a sealed thing or can it be replaced? any updated info on where to get replacement parts would be awesome.
@daikiryoku7 жыл бұрын
He is referring to the guibo between the tail shaft and diff pinion. www.turnermotorsport.com/c-113-bmw-flex-discs-guibos It's a cheap and easy job but I'm not convinced it is the actual problem. In my case it was the diff backlash, and it sounds just like that. I changed my bushes and guibo first and then found it was the backlash so just swapped in a whole diff from a wrecked car, finally fixed it.

Matthew Feauto it's the flange on the shaft that connects the rear wheels to the differential

so the flanges that mate to the cv shafts?

Did you fix the problem? If so, what was the soulution
@bimmer32404 жыл бұрын
@@larsdensyvende Yes, there is a bushing/silencer or whatever it is called on the differential that absorbs the noise the differential is making, same as the ones the engine are holding in the engine bay. You can go under the car and you can see it near the diff, a rubber thing with a steel ring around. You need a good mechanic probably a official BMW service to repair it since it has a lot of work to remove it. In my case no mechanic can do the job.
@bmw6253 жыл бұрын
@@bimmer3240 dude you just need the DIY tool to kick that rubber down,replacement is easy then.

The output flange he is talking about is the guibo which is cheap and easy to do yourself. www.turnermotorsport.com/c-113-bmw-flex-discs-guibos
@alexzirnea7 жыл бұрын
Nope, that is the flange on the transmission, which is another deal. If that was the problem, it would rather rattle, and it would really make a clunking, sort of dampened noise. That isn't the case here.
@JodyGomes7 жыл бұрын
Simon Inga no, it's not that. it's the flange on the shaft that connects the rear wheels to the differential
