Thanks for the video guys. I've had 6 or 7 people comment on my V10 M3 restoration video to say 'you should take it to Redish'. I've been a bit out of the loop with E46 stuff for a while so I'd not heard of you. Looks like you do great work & the video will be very helpful when checking out the underside later this week. Cheers. Phil.

Driftworks Hi Phil, thanks for the kind words. I was watching your new E46 Ep1 video on Saturday actually. Looking forward to see your progress on V1 TEN. If we can help you with anything or just advice on E46 chassis please let us know and we'll be more than happy to help you. There's a mass of E46 M3 video documentaries on our KZbin channel which show right from 'Corrosion found' up to 'full Underside restorations'. Best regards, James Redish 😀👍

You guys are doing an AMAZING work really, all of your videos shows without a doubt that you truly know what you are doing and with an utter care, its a true delight to see it. What a find so irritating is when I hear they have gone to the moon and landed there ..." YET here on Earth they cant make a car that is rust free, its an absurd !!! its rather a simple matter to prepare the metal and make the right metal rust free!!! I am sorry, I am very upset seeing here and there some rust on my beloved e39

Hi James, I’ve seen most of your videos and am both fascinated and impressed by your quality of work. I’ve seen several mentions of the corrosion around the central 25mm grommets and my question is “why are they there ?” It seems to me that if they were not then there would be no issues. There probably is a reason but I can’t see why. Also if you have to weld in new metal do you leave as is or do you drill and fit a new grommet? Peter.

Hi man, I have exactly same problem as you show at 7:30. I gues this place is meant to rust. But I am scared to weld at this place, because there is the isolation foam in there. Is it possible to get to the foam from inside of the car, so I can remove it and weld it without setting the foam on fire? I don' t want to take apart all interior just to find out I can not get there.

is there a video where you show all the repairs of this rust? i have a e39(i guess i also see just 10% of all the rust :D) so what im interested in doesnt really apply to what you are showing in this video, but im kinda interested in how you tackle the problem starting at 7:30. do you cut it all out and replace or what? so many questions and so little space to reply to all of it, unless i would have been in your shop and see you work :D

what is the steps of correctly curing rust is their a full video of someone patching a hole or crumbling corrosion?
@RedishMotorsportbmw4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. Technically, the best way would be to remove that piece of rusted metal and weld in a new piece of non rusted metal. However, that's not always the case, so the next step would be to remove all loose surface rust, treat the rusted metal with a chemical like POR-15 Metal Prep, then paint it with something like POR-15 Rust Preventative Paint, then complete with further paint/sealer layers to protect it from the atmosphere. Hope this helps.

It's such shame BMW should make such a lovely vehicle in the form of the E46 and let it down with poor rust prevention. My wheel arches are starting to look bad and that's just the rust I can see!
