Absolute legend posting these videos. Recently bought a 525d started dripping oil. Pretty much exact same scenario as yours. Splash shields saturated with oil very scary given how much I lost. Ordered all the gear you have used and then I found these videos. Going to order swirl flap blanks tomorrow once I've measured it tomorrow

Cool glad they were helpful. If you are going to strip down to this extent, I’d recommended also changing glow plugs. They can only be accessed with inlet removed. Mine are now being a twat and two have failed and I can’t be bothered to strip it all off to get to them!

@@nitrosilvia Make sure you check the power cable from the alternator to the glow plug module, the connectors on those wires melt and cause glow plug(s)/module errors.

Yeah, me too. I can only think the turbo seal is going so it might just be delaying the inevitable. We shall see.

good job, I've got same issue, oil leak underneath, m47 BMW E60, removed rocker cover, gasket rock hard fallen in pieces, tomorrow will get new gasket and hope wont see oil leak again. thanks for the video guide, indeed helped.

Thanks, good luck, and also don’t forget to replace/upgrade your cam cover breather filter to the cyclone type.
@mkay18072 жыл бұрын
white smoke is due to the blocked turbo crankcase breather filter. good thing you changed it sooner else it would've killed your turbo.

was there an oil leak in the turbo, was the turbo repaired
@nitrosilvia Жыл бұрын
No it was just the crankcase breather filter that was blocked, creating excess pressure, which made the cam cover leak. The turbo was fine. Now on 200,000 miles and fine

I seem to have the same problem with those swirl flaps leaking. Did this fix the problem? I also dont understand how does the intake leak oil eventho my car doesnt smoke any oil?
@nitrosilvia10 ай бұрын
Yeah deffo helped with the leaking. The oil in the inlet sometimes doesn’t actually get drawn into the cylinders, it drops out in the inlet and collects and then leaks. Also if it does get burned the dpf does a good job of filtering it until it gets blocked.
@pit_stop775 жыл бұрын
What was the purpose of the swirl flaps, that you can blank them off and the engine still work?
@nitrosilvia5 жыл бұрын
I think they help regulate torque throughout the Rev range. Bit like having a split plenum like the old m5’s

Hi, please reply, so was that massive leak out of the inlet manifold ? Im struggling with leaks in my 730d, engine block from the side of the manifold is all in a leak, im also getting some oil on the dpf box (valbe cover gasket replaced) im thinking it could also be rear main seal connecting engine to gearbox. Anyway, did the inlet manifold seals fix your leak ? Dod you have to replxe the turbo short after ?
@nitrosilvia3 жыл бұрын
Have you replaced your crankcase breather filter sometimes called vortex filter? My leaks all stopped after i replaced that, and the cam cover seal and removed the swirl flaps and sealed all the holes with the lugs. Hasnt leaked a drop since.
@anwarmurad34394 жыл бұрын
I watched all of your clips, I have same problem, my m47 spews oil and I dont know from where, Months ago before It all hapened I did a vortex air brather swap as it had the old roll , and I did a blanking of the flaps, but I dont remember replacing those small rubber bushing that u thought lost in a cylinder. So you did the following: -Rocker cover gasket -injector seals -inlet manifold gaskets -vortex breather Did i miss anything ?? The m47 is almost like your m57 , the difference is the +2 cylinders :)
@nitrosilvia4 жыл бұрын
I removed and blanked the swirl flaps, as i think the oil was actually leaking past the little seals on the spindles. You can buy the blanking kits off ebay. You will need to check what diameter you need as there are two sizes.
@anwarmurad34394 жыл бұрын
nitrosilvia blanking already done . Did your leak only leak on the sides and down to the ground or did it spray all over, like especially underside of the hood???
@amazingzone86593 жыл бұрын
great videos. thank you for sharing. I have the same problem atm. starting to concern me. did all this work fix the problem? or did you have to replace/recondition your turbo as well?
@nitrosilvia3 жыл бұрын
Turbo was fine. It was basically the crank breather filter clogging up (sometimes called vortex filter). That mean the rocker area was pressurising blowing the oil out. Most of it was coming out the swirl flap seals. My advice, change the filter (easy and cheap) see how you get on. You might not have to change any seals!
@amazingzone86593 жыл бұрын
@@nitrosilvia thank you for the tip. much appreciated. mine leaks a bit from one of the turbos as well (535d). However, the other side is soaked. I'll change the breather and Im also tempted to change the rocker cover gasket and swirl flap seals too, just for the peace of mind and the car has almost 200k on the clock, so might as well, for good measures.
@nitrosilvia3 жыл бұрын
Also if you do take your inlet off, you might want to change your glow plugs at the same time while your in there. I didn’t and now two have failed, so I’m gonna have to take the inlet off again ☹️
@amazingzone86593 жыл бұрын
@@nitrosilvia thats a shame. yeah, I was going to replace them a while ago, but didn't get around to it. been putting it off. so will do it all at once. just one more quick question. did you also replace the bolts with those rubber boots that hold the rocker cover? BMW TIS doesn't say to replace them, but I think I've seen a video where the guy replaced them. thinking logically here, there is no need, really. unlike bolts for suspension parts where it all gets stretched out
