Great vid! Can you advise which way the new bearing is meant to be pressed in? The new bearing kit i have has the same colour dust covers either side so i don’t know which side has the encoder in it for the ABS sensor to read. Can you help advise?

Just did mine on the driver side with the Duralast brand, 1/2 the price. Job itself wasn't that difficult but a bit of muscling, esp that one top bolt that needed the box wrench. Even with the box wrench I couldn't get much room, so I had to be extra extra patient. Once the four bolts were out, it was easier hand tightening.

Have you ever taken the brake calipers a part and refurbished them? I am thinking about doing this and while they are a part, having them powder coated, but I am afraid of not being able to get the boot seal back on correctly. I worked on an e46 once and refurbished the calipers; they were a real PITA to get the boot seals back on the piston. Its almost as if you needed a specific tool that was exactly "X" in diameter in order to move the metal ring in the boot seal over the lip.

My rear has gone on the e90.i take it the rears are more difficult as it holds the drive shafts.is it easier to get a complete bearing kit rather than just the bearing as dont want to strip the whole hub off?? Thanks
@VehicularDIY
@VehicularDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's way more involved on the rear as the hub needs to be pressed out of the bearing. You can still do it at home but it would involve renting a bearing kit and using an impact wrench. It would likely be easier to remove the knuckle from the car.

A couple of things I noticed that I would not have done. 1. Using Duralast parts on a BMW. 2. Re-using one time use only bolts to re-assemble the bearing. Other than those things, pretty clear video. Thanks.

FAG which seemed to be OE quality made in Germany is selling for 120 shipped. Is FAG that better to justify double the price? I still can spend 240 for a pair but Duralast gives me 120 saving overall. What do you think?

How do you fit a torque wrench back in there?! About to take them off but even with the box end it was super shitty to break the bolts, no way I'll be able to get a torque wrench on the top left side one (if looking at the assembly from straight on)

So my kid curbed his 07 335i. He bent the lower control arm. After changing all the front control arms the test drive produced a droning noise. I checked on some of the forums and they said it’s a wheel hub. I did some looking around for parts and wjb has a hub assembly with the same part number as your Duralast hub. Moog was the same part number as well. I’m assuming they are all made by the same mfg. How has the wheel hub held up? Any issues?
@VehicularDIY

Yeah typically they just contract one of the better companies overseas and throw the Duralast name on there. It's been fine, it's held up.
