Im a 60 year old lady, and was told, you have a non genuine windscreen, we cant do it unless we take out the windscreen, and if will break and you going to have to do the whole thing. Went to BMW, we cant do that its not possible, a whole new windscreen and rubber cost about $2000.00. So I watch your video, I have a E325i E90 I purchased a genuine rubber seal from BMW, and I did it my self with a camping spoon as it was thin enough to push down, doing the top first, then the sides from the bottom up and it fits well and is sealed. It looks fine like it was done by a professional. Thank you for saving this old girl $2000.00. The upsell for extra money is just greedy. So far I have replaced the light washers on the bumper, new badge on the back and now the new seal. Next is to replace the struts and I have already bought them. I also have new spark plugs and oil and filters to do my service. Wish me luck.

It's much easier if you slide both sides in rather than try to fight getting the C channel around the windshield like he did on the divers side. That's a good way to crack the windshield because on some cars it's way too tight right there. If you get one side slid in, pull up some slack in the center so you can then slide the other side in. Once both ends are started, you can then push down the slack from the center out, and then begin seating the C channel from one end to the other. Also removing is not as difficult as he made it look, but he did figure it out at the end. Just get it started on one side and pull.

Just did front and back, cleaned the channel with soap and a soft brush, removed the butyl gunk stuff (it comes on the new seals). Slid one side in, then the other, made sure they were even and it went into place super easy. I even filled some small spots where the paint had been rubbed off or something with some similar color rustoleum. After pressing it into place, peeled the double-sided tape cover and gave the seal a massage. Thanks for the pro-tip.
@GoFastGator4 жыл бұрын
Bend the new seal slightly, like a bow. Slide one end in, slide the other in, and press the rest of the seal into place, the ends will push outwards as the middle seats into the channel. Done. Once you’ve done it once, it’s a 10 minute job. But then I hope my new seals last long enough that I forget how to do it!

FCP surely made it look easy but his method was almost impossible in my 330i e90. you’re pro tip was much easier. i may also add, using some soapy water or windex and a plastic trim tool makes it even easier when pushing the rest in that tight spaces

The urethane that holds the windshield in does not deteriorate. That's why car manufacturers use it. Those moldings are only cosmetic. The only thing that can break the seal over time is rust. It's annoying when people say incorrect info on their channels. Still gave you a thumbs up though. Lol

@AndrewRappL3 ай бұрын
I had a much tougher time removing mine on a 17 year old e90. I had to use needle nose to pull it out after removing the crumbled parts. I actually snapped off my 90 degree pick. Definitely put both ends in and slide towards the end as others mentioned. I parked the car in the sun to heat it up and it slid in quite nicely. I rolled it with a nalgene bottle to get it fully seated. I pulled the entire tape at once and worked it in with gloves. Overall an easy job with a little work to remove the old one

Rip to my windshield o7 that metal c channel put up a good fight and ultimately I cracked the windshield. Even with a few microfiber towels. Bummer that you don’t show any close ups of the seal. I ordered one via Amazon and cannot get the C channel to fully slide into place. Tried 10 different angles on my 2006 325i. It’ll fit on the ends but will not go all the way into place in the center. Cheap part?

Had mine replaced under warranty. Now it's years later and time to do it again. Rear was very easy, like it should be. Front was borderline impossible because I've had the windshield replaced once. So much glue under the window that the c-clamp will never fit. I'll redo the rubber trim when i get a new windshield. Until then, passenger side is a mess.

Great video thanks. I purchased a genuine BMW replacement seal based on my chassis number and it was all going fine from the slide across at the start but as I got to about half way through I was having a lot of trouble getting the c channel to seat itself on the windscreen and almost to the point that I thought the product was faulty. In the end, after at least 1 hour of pushing and tapping with a nail counter sink tool and using the Terri cloth with my hammer I had to give up as it looked like crap and was getting no where. My question is should I try to use something like a tiny bit of RP7 in the c channel to help it slide on or will this cause some problems late on? Appreciate your thoughts?
