My 320d and X1 20d have no oil consumption between service (25 k km). The 335d xdrive with 580.000 km on the clock needs 1 litre every 2 or 3 k km. We use 5W30. For the older one 5W40 would be better I suppose. Hello from Austria.

I wonder why they stopped providing a dip stick. In cold weather it's worth getting your bottle/canister of oil up to room temperature before adding just to help it pour out of the jug and leave less stuck to the sides.

I change my oil every 5000 miles so this hasn't happened to me yet !! I've only got 37,000 miles on the clock so still use 5w 30, I was under the impression u go to 5w 40 with higher mileage maybe over 100k ?

Hi @arnietwo11 That’s good dedication to oil changes! I don’t think you’ll ever get this issue at that sort of service interval. My car is at 70k. The N55 3.0T is pretty notorious for using oil, so I moved to the 5w 40 as soon as I got it!

Disgraceful modern engines using oil the way they do, vag cars are terrible for it also
