I just bought one! Was looking to replace my old Range Rover and found it at the first garage we tried. 2011, 50k miles and 2 owners from new. Light leather interior and dark blue exterior - my perfect colour combination! First BMW and super impressed by the car and unbelievable value!!!

Sounds great. They're lovely cars, great mix of quality, power and fuel economy. Maintenance costs not too bad either. Do bear in mind however that in London, as its a pre Euro 6 it won't be ulez compliant. The F10 520d became Euro 6 from 63 reg onwards

How’s yours been in the 9months you’ve had it? Which year?
@doubleL_S Жыл бұрын
@jonnygti 2011. I've put 20k on it and it's been faultless. Needs a disc and pad change now but yeah amazing thing. It's only a 520d and it's definitely not powerful enough but that's my only complaint. And that's my fault for not being able to afford the 30d at the time.

@@doubleL_S that’s really good going then. You do a lot of miles to put 20k on it in under a year 😲 Only thing that worries me going from a petrol to a diesel is the clean air zones here in the uk, my local city would want £8 just for us to go shopping there. And planning trips around the country would require checking to make sure we didn’t pass through a clean air zone. Not sure if you’re in the uk or not
@doubleL_S Жыл бұрын
@jonnygti I'm in the UK yes but rarely drive into big cities so the clean air zone doesn't affect me. But if you are one of those who do drive into the city often then maybe a petrol would be a better option. It would sound and just feel a lot better than a diesel as well I think.

A great review. I agree with everything you say. Yours is better specced that mine, with the fog lights, better steering wheel and those comfy seats. I have the petrol 520 with beige leather and Cashmere Silver body work. It's a base model but I love it. Long journeys are effortless, as you say. I've had 4 new tyres, and the air con failed which BMW repaired under the 1 year warranty I got when I bought it. Every time I get into it I love it! (Btw, I spotted a tiny bit of rust by a door seal and BMW are going to repair it free of charge.) Cheers.

@sutsi2 жыл бұрын
I had it 4 years and other than odd background sensors which cleared (usually if I went over a hump or something) with a BMW diagnostic....this car has been excellent. Even tho it says long service intervals, I ignored it and serviced every year at BMW. Mine is the Euro 6 B47 2.0 diesel engine which is more reliable than the previous N47 engine (timing chain guides), so that might explain things.

@@sutsi Oh ok very interesting, thanks for the reply, does it offer a sense of sporty driving or is it more luxury?

@@moonwalk6404 more towards sportiness..but if you get the Msport with adaptive dampers it can give the luxury soft ride also (but it's another thing that could go wrong so I just prefer to stick to the factory standard Msport suspension). Hi man, just wondering about the reliability of a car like this, i need something to do site visits with for my job, once every two weeks, so i was wondering if this was acceptable? I also am aware of 2013-2015 Merc e220d but that one has a very loud engine. I was wondering what you think. I've never been a fan of diesel cars.
@sutsi9 ай бұрын
Maintenance history is critical for these. But like most executive cars as they age can get electrical gremlins. But I found the F10 personally better than the equivalent Merc or Audi. Also ensure you get the Euro 6 so as to comply with clean air zone and ulez. If you only do short journeys then opt for the Petrol. The 520/525 are plenty pokey enough and reasonably economic.

Have you ever had timing chain issues ?

Not on my 5 series. But I did have timing chain issue with my 2014 3 series petrol .the plastic guides broke and had to spend £1600 to fix it all

I'm between 535d and 535i. Never had diesel car in my life before.. Also never automatic transmission. I just see so many problems that are so costly with A.G.. personal fear 😨 .. harder to find this one manual, but it's a keeper. If I manage to find one, I hope they will not have problems with turbines. Do you know anything about this specific engines and common issues ? Thank you
@sutsi2 жыл бұрын
Yes the inherent risk is there with the automatic...so crucial to buy one that's got extensive history and most critically the type of owner it's had...if they've been sympathetic to the car it should last. If going diesel get the Euro 6 + version so that you don't fall foul of emissions charges...also if you intend only to do short journeys then defo avoid diesel due to dpf issues. Usual things to look out for like timing chain noises, turbos, electrical glitches...so check all buttons work ....generally be picky get a 1 or 2 owner car that has full documented history...that will generally keep you on safe ground..even if purchase price a bit higher better value for money in the long run.

@@milovanpuric318if you find a 535d with a replaced timing chain( if anywhere Iver 100k ) it should be fine, the 535i isn't necessarily known for the best reliability in the long run, I seen alot of buyers in Europe getting 300k+ kms out of the 535d's with the engines still going strong. Full service history is necessary

Hi mate, I know you haven’t got it anymore, but any tips on buying a 2011 version 520D MSport? I take it the engine is the same as your old 2014 one? N57 I think it is. As far as I know the main issues on these engines are the timing chain, I guess you would just have to listen to the engine when it’s running, for any strange noises. I think apart from that there’s no other problems to look for? Also do they all come with DAB radios? Or are some just normal FM radios?
@sutsi Жыл бұрын
Pre march 2011 in the UK was the N47 that had the timing chain issues. So yes need to go for the N57, generally solid if maintained well. I would strongly advise getting 63 plate and above if getting diesel....as this is like my one which is Euro 6 emission rated, so that u don't fall foul of ulez emission zones etc. I think dab was only on later models... generally a very solid car and yes with chain sometimes there are those tell tale noises that give you a hint. Hope this helps

Absolute rubbish car regarding the performance, shame on BMW. This is supposed to be a fast nippy car, well let me tell you it is not. What is the point of owning such a car when it is no good when it comes down to acceleration and speed? Well as others are saying if you want to downgrade and learn to drive more slowly than you used to then get yourself a BMW. I had a Skoda Superb estate 2013 Manual transmission with a 140HP, had it tunned Stage 1 to 170HP - 0-60 in 7sec, and mate let me tell you in Germany on the Autobans I did 155mph. Now unfortunately I DOWNGRADED to 2015 520d F11 190HP, poor little thing no matter how hard I stand on top of that accelerator it would not go any more than 110 - 120mph and 0-60 in 8.5sec. So from SUPERB downgrading to this thing, it feels quite painful. But hey let's don't forget at the end of the day is an Automatic car, they still have a lot to improve to catch up with the smooth ride you achieve in a Manual car. Automatics are slow, takes them some time to change gears when accelerating, then when jumping on the break after a high speed the car feels like it is going to choke especially if you're going downhill. As for space and comfort, I rather not start as the SUPERB is absolutely dwarfing the F11. But hey everyone has their own reasons.
@bigash_n543 жыл бұрын
🤣🤣 if you want speed get 530d, 535d or 535i. The 520d is not designed to be fast, look at the weight of them . Don't compare a rubbish skoda with a BMW.
