Good video. Showed me what needs to come off to replace front springs and gaiters. Also an honest video of how mechanical jobs go. Not always as smooth as people make out. Thanks.

Eco. You are a true hero. The hardest working KZbinr ever. I just love how your videos invariably look exactly like what happens when I attempt a similar repair. Nothing is ever easy. Nothing goes to plan. I forget tools. I lose bolts. I smash my fingers. And I always end up feeling like an idiot because every other KZbinr edits their videos to cut out all of the struggles. But you leave them in. And that’s what makes you a diamond in the rough. You’re the quintessential anti-hero. An Everyman in a world that has gotten far too pretty and polished and perfect. Just FYI it was your Flex videos that inspired me to purchase a 2015 Flex Titanium. It had around 120k miles and you showed me how solid the car was as long as it was maintained. I’ve been doing my own maintenance on it ever since and I love it! It was only after my Flex purchase did I realize you also own an i3. I own an i8 and while I’m not quite ready to do my own maintenance on it yet, I’m loving your videos on it. The “I” family shares many attributes and it makes Me realize while the i8 may look and feel like a spaceship. It’s really just a car and can be worked on like any other (mostly). Anyway. Keep up the hard work. Some of us out there really do appreciate it.

Thank you! DIY never goes to plan. And I'm also forgetting tools. I try to leave as much in with out the video being a bit too drawn out or boring. I feel honored that my content inspired you to purchase a Flex. I've only ever saw one i8 in person. My i3 .. is a love/hate relationship with BMW.

Thanks for providing an inside look of how my life will also be for 4 tires on my 2014 i3.. I've see devices that are small enough to attach right to the springs to tighten them while under the car. I'm olso going to replace the shock as well as the boot and rubber top piece.

Very interesting, but did you really go to all that effort and then put the same knackered bump stop back on?.. New gaiters I saw advertised came with a new bump stop.. Thanks for sharing, it's probably put most of us off trying to do it.. Best wishes David

I did- I went through all of that just to out the same struts and bump stops back on. I figured with new boots the struts may have longer life than with no boots. I should have just put new struts on- but that would be more $$ then just dust boots.

@@EcoBelkin hey, sorry the downvote was a mistake I can't seem to undo.. Thanks for replying so swiftly.. Yesterday, before finding your excellent video, I pulled apart and removed what was left of both gaiters.. One had been partly swallowed by the bump stop. The bump stop had split, and had the strength of sofa foam.. I wasn't going to bother about the gaiters, I was more worried about the bump stop.. Now, thanks to your video I'm aware of the top bearing, which is probably the reason that the gaiters are there.. I've been quoted £250 ($317) to change both, and seeing the amount of work you did, that doesn't sound bad.. If it's going to cost that much money every few years, I wonder if there's a more expensive but far better made gaiter available.. FYI, I wouldn't have changed the struts either.. Best wishes David

Question ❓ will my car be ok if mine are bad? Shocks seem fine. If I make an extra effort to keep the area clean will it be ok? My car is a 2014

Why not just fit coil spring covers? Simple and cheap.

Hi @EcoBelkin -- thank you so much! You meant a 16mm nut and an H-5 (5 mm) hex key, right? at --> kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHnWd2Bqi8l9rqc
