LED strip in the door only turns red when the engine/ vehicle powered up and that particular door opens. It’s an indication to let you know the door is open whilst vehicle is powered up and also when the door is not properly closed. Thanks for your videos.

Incorrect. That's a general misconception. Tesla in fact has good quality. It's just that you don't know about it. And BMW also has issues. Just like all other brands.

My M3P 2019 has bad paintwork (paint thickness, faded paint), leaking glass roof, bad quality of door seals (sound insulation), gaps partly uneven (wind noise), rust (area of ​​rocker panel), bumpy suspension (front supension also makes sometimes strange noises), boring ambient light, seats are on longt trips to soft (like a american couch), no selection for seat covers material (sweat on imitation leather), no setting options for front headrest, leg extension or lean width, no tweeter for rear passengers, clumsy Isofix position, primitive navigation (no POI on current route, no alternative routes (fast, short,...), no detailed traffic informations on current route, no option to disable Autobahn, no options for tolls in different countrys, no 3D maps, delayed map loading when bad mobile connection, ...), restricted media control for connected smartphone (no searching titel, playlist, album, artist), no voice commands for media on smartphone (works only with spotify), heater cooks my feet (no solution, must turn it off for the legs), no fan speed adjustment between driver and passenger, no air supply for the front brakes (overheat, take a look in front heel housing of a i4 M50 and compare), and much more Why did i buy this car? Because there was no alternative, until now. And many negative points on my Tesla I noticed over time.

@@simontele my dealer told me to expect my car to arrive by November - December. They seemed really confident with that estimate. But I guess I'll find out by October. I ordered mine in May 2022

This press car is with the Supercharged package that costs 127,900 Kr (12,790 Euro) extra in Norway. Also, the estimated delivery date for new reservations in Norway is Q1 2023, that is one year waiting list.

Going to book a test drive in the spring. As long as the room upfront is good I am good with it since I will not be in the backseat. Being a little thirsty is no a problem since it chargers lie a boss. Very interesting compromise at this point,now bring on the iX, that review by Bjorn should be interesting since it’s a ground up EV.

Dear Bjørn, I follow your channel with great joy and interest, and looking at your reports on the i4 M50 I wonder why you don’t report on the basis versions of the i4. They are much more affordable, have - as I understand- even more range, and are to be equipped with all amenities you could wish for.. I would appreciate it if you could give it some attention! The ignition/screens off thing is weird for bmw's, on many bmw's that I have driven, the infotainment screens, music etc stays on until you lock the car (i love it because when you are unloading etc, then you can vibe to music)

I am pretty sure that you can customise it in the infotainment the way you prefer it. I had an ix3 over the Christmas period and I could change it in the settings there.

Bjørn, writing with the iDrive controller is slower indeed, but you can do it without taking a single glance off the road, not so easy to do that with the on-screen keyboard while leaning forward. And no, I generally won't be talking to my car, I much rather enjoy listening to the music than my own and the assistants voice. 😉

If the phone/charger area gets hot the charging is stopped and if you do not pay attention you get a surprise later (that the phone is not charged). It happens to me also for example when I am using Waze and the phone gets hot. The new models have some cooling holes in that area.

Great review. Did you try out the voice controls? Apparently the system can understand commands like, “Hey BMW, I’m cold!” and it will increase the temperature. Thanks!

Just bought a 3 series recently. I've learned that car reviewers should also test the cameras in low light situations. Never had such a bad back camera in my life in low light. My old BMWs were much better. Wonder if they learned from that mistake and the new i4 is better. Let's hope

13:47 you're supposed to use gesture control to move the image around the car. BMW's have had that for a number of years.

Unless you need an EV now, I'd wait until the 2025 line of electric BMWs comes out on the dedicated EV chassis. Having said that, it seems BMW has done a great job with an existing gas platform.

Great review, as nearly always. BMW: Björn's Magnificant Work! But what I still miss from this new BMW i's, the founders if the legend BMW i3? Why don't they spend a frunk? It seems that really none of the former BMW i- Engineers is involved in the new models. Disappointing!

The premium inside this car is superior to Model 3. Alone the doors closing...And I drive myself a Model 3 SR+ On the efficiency side, the BMW gets way worse range/kwh and higher price as well. Difficult decision if I had 60k to spend on a car

eDrive40 is there for you. Cheaper, wheighs less, more efficient due to more aerodynamic styling, less weight and only one motor.

Was in a BMW i4 last weekend. As with other coupe style cars, the view through the back mirror is terrible. No matter how good the rest of the car is, to me, the poor all-around view is sufficient to go for a different car.

Those 4 programmable functions are just okay. But why did BMW had to take away those 8 nice tactile physical buttons which did the same thing, allow you program all sorts of useful functions such as phone numbers, navi destinations, etc. It was one of the best interior features in the entire automotive market, and only BMWs had them. Now BMW is taking them away just because Tesla got people to think screens are cooler than buttons.

And look how disgusting the screen looks like at 12:18 for example. 🤣 Touch screens have their place but this setup could still easily have the physical shortcut buttons and climate control buttons available, yet it doesn't.

The explanation I got from engineers (working with other forms of electric vehicles) was that kWh/h is the average consumption per hour whereas kW is the exact consumption. Not sure if that makes sense, I remember thinking in the same terms as you and was a bit confused when they said it. I can safely say it's not a remnant from combustion engines and l/h though.

@@bjornnyland the 2 types of displaying consumption fully makes sense. while driving you wanr to know how far you can go => kwh/km or maybe kwh/100km, while standing still you want to know how long your energy will last with your consumers switched on wile in a traffic yam => kwh/h . no Algebra fail, just consumer centric thinking

It's such a weird car. Is it an EV or petrol? It doesn't harvest any of the advantages a real EV platform has. BMW software has always been crap. In my 3 series and 5 series it has no good user interface. So many clicks to get where you want to go. And don't get me started on the service prices....
