Spot on regarding solution. However, I’d suggest alternatives to Gumout or Brake Cleaner - you need to really rinse the gumout and brake cleaner could be harsher than necessary. Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner gets at it and evaporates extremely quick; it’s a bit more expensive but better for those components. Second would be WD40, to clean it - not lubricant it. Last, I’ve stopped bending the rubber hoses and tubes around just to save a step or two, doesn’t always work on a +25 yr car … because it might crack and break. Instead, I’ve resorted to taking more pieces off in a logical order … after impatiently stressing out old rubbers and wires in the past and getting stuck with rebuilding a makeshift part because they don’t make them anymore.

Most of the time this problem is the thermo time switch that controls the cold start injector. However, the problem in that case happens when the coolant temp is less than 59 degrees. At less than 59 degrees Fahrenheit the thermo time switch fires the cold start injector for 8 seconds. Problems starting Over 59 degrees, I’d look at the idle control switch, coolant temp switch for the pcm, fuel filter, check fuel pressure. Also, check your cap and rotor from time to time. I found the carbon filament completely missing on my 528e.

Michael Alden it’s a muffler delete that just goes into dual exhaust 3” exhaust tips.
