You should shake the icv and listen to how free the valve is. If you need a lot of force full shaking to get it to rattle it's stuck. Clean it till you can shake it and it rattles very easily with very little force, sometimes need to lubricate the valve a little (I did) with a small spray of wd40

Dope vid as always broo, I found the problem with my E30, it was the spark plug cables and distributor causing it to idle rough. I gotta clean the throttle body like you said now. Your vids help out a lot man, keep them coming.

Hello dear friend. By chance you have the vehicle manual where it specifies the tests that can be carried out in the ICV. I'm having idle instability issues on my 1990 e30 320i. I came across a magazine article that said between the center pin (+) of the ICV connector and ground, you need to measure the battery voltage. And between the center pin (2) and pins 1 and 3, it should measure 10 VDC. In my case, pin 2 and pin 3 measure 4.1 VDC. I measured it at the output of the ECU (positive battery and pin 4 ECU) and the value is the same. I changed the ECU and the output voltage value between positive battery and pin 4 ECU is 4.1 VDC. Some help ?. Greetings from Chile, South America.

I know this video is old, so I'm hoping you see this in time. Don't use the VR headgasket. They're not bad, but they've been known to go bad a lot sooner than Elring or Genuine BMW gaskets. VR is good for everything else though. For some reason their headgaskets seem to be iffy.

My VR head gasket leaked oil down the side of the block. Stay away.

@joestueber9464 Жыл бұрын
@Mark Romans I replaced my head gasket years ago with a VR and I also ended up having oil running down the passenger side of my block. I ended taking my valve cover off and I torqued my head bolts a little tighter and the leak stopped but then came back after only a couple hundred more miles.. I was thinking it was maybe because I reused my head bolts and also thought maybe because I didn't check my block to head surface to ensure it was perfectly flat. I did get my head resurfaced and pressure tested before installing so I'm pretty sure it's not the head.. so yeah, perhaps I need to do the job again and use brand new head bolts this time, ensure the block is true flat and try a different brand gasket. Did you end up replacing your head gasket again?

Coolant hoses

Would cleaning out the throttle body stop hesitation on a e30?
@EricNomads76 жыл бұрын
Push Weight Not really, a dirty throttle body usually causes a low idle and if its bad enough could cause the engine to stall at times but I suppose it could if it was dirty enough and the throttle plate was sticking ?

Around 800rpm. How about yours?

@EricNomads77 жыл бұрын
I would try cleaning the ICV and Throttle body first since thats the cheapest. If that doesn't help, when was the last time you changed spark plugs, wires, cap, and rotor ?
@idrisu17 жыл бұрын
Thats the first thing I did.. spark plugs have about 2k miles on them wires, cap, rotor no idea but I don't think that affects the idle. Also replaced the tps. I was thinking it could be the afm?
@EricNomads77 жыл бұрын
It could effect the idle. If the cap and rotor contacts are worn out the spark will won't be as strong causing even a slight misfire which will feel like a rough idle. You can clean out the AFM as well if just to make sure it isn't that. Something else to think about is a bad blue temp sensor making your car run rich and idle low. To go even further with the diagnosis, there could be an exhaust leak before the 02 sensor. which would cause your car to run rich as well. let me know how it goes !

Running about 1100 rpm...any suggestions???
@EricNomads76 жыл бұрын
You might have a vacuum leak somewhere. Try spraying carb cleaner on some vacuum hoses, throttle body, intake manifold gasket area, and injectors while the car is running. If the idle changes when you spray a certain spot then I suggest replacing that gasket, hose, etc..Also clean the ICV and Throttle body.
@estecan1246 жыл бұрын
Thank you...i'll try tomorrow ...i'll report back
@estecan1246 жыл бұрын
cleaned icv...also replaced it...no help..it even went up to 2000 rpm ...cleaned throttle body as well. nothing good. the only interesting thing is that when i disconnect the MAF the car shuts down. other than that still idling very high
@EricNomads76 жыл бұрын
Esteban Canela Any vacuum leaks ? Yeah thats weird usually it would stay running but put the car into open loop. Maybe your car is idling high because it doesn't go into closed loop. To go to closed loop the blue temp sensor needs to see a certain temp and then the o2 sensor starts giving the DME accurate measurements to adjust fuel accordingly. If there is no vacuum leaks Or exhaust leaks before the o2 then you should look into testing the o2 or blue temp ?

@EricNomads72 жыл бұрын
You probably have a vacuum leak somewhere. Try smoking the system or spraying brake cleaner around all the intake system and listen for the idle to change.
@pasmichael Жыл бұрын
There was a leak in that hole in the valve cover. I ended up getting a new valve cover. It has a hole in it and and that inner plate that sits on the inside part of the valve cover was filled with junk. I needed up replacing the whole engine during this.
