Awesome video's, question on 2024 X5 iDrive40i. How do you do a reset of the infotainment system? Put it back into it's factory settings and allow a fresh start, from scratch? BTW I ordered the rear hatch cover from Amazon, coming in soon!

You can hold down the scroll knob on the multimedia controls on the steering wheel, that resets the trip computer to 0. If you want to do a factory reset, it should be within the settings, try browsing for "reset" see if it pops up.

Do you know if split screen still a thing in idrive 8? I used to use it a lot before to show turn by turn and now it seems to have moved to the instrument cluster (I want that to show something else)

Hey Ray, sorry for the late response. I've been wanting to try to see if this works first. I do not believe that split screen is an option. One of the biggest reasons being is now the instrument cluster on the driver side is much more advanced where it can show many more different types of menus. There is also the Heads up display which also shows tons of info.

which option (on an i4) do you need for the Augmented Reality Navigation?

Rumors were saying that the i4 was going to have it since march 2022 but as of dec 2022 there were still no signs of the feature coming to the i4. Right now it's an ix exclusive feature that does require having the parking assistance plus package. No word yet on the i4. If you wanted my personal take on the augmented reality, it does seem very cool at first, but when i an ix with the feature for a 2 hour drive, I barely ended up using the feature, not sure why but it didn't feel natural taking my eyes off the road to see the virtual view. I would rather opt for the heads up display!

Can you explain please what for the chapter “vehicle key(olnly available with bmw id and linked key)” in a door and windows menu

You have to set up a BMW ID and keep one key in the vehicle at one time when doing so. It'll be easier to setup the MY BMW App first, and then make the ID because then you can simply scan a QR code when in the setup phase of making a ID.

I see you can now get Apple map navigation on the driver display when using carplay navigation. Can you also get Waze there too?

It's true it does for work apple maps, and google maps (when connected to android auto) still not compatible with Waze however.

Great video!! Is there a way to disable Lane Departure Warning by Default, so that it gets saved in your ID? Everytime I start the car I need to disable it manually and it is very anoying...

Here in the US the laws do allow you to keep it off once you turn it off. I have heard stories about this in other countries where laws are more strict and you do have to turn it off all the time. A couple things I would make sure on though it to make sure you have your BMW ID or Driver Profile setup. Worst case, you can save the lane departure setting to a shortcut and access it faster.

Is there a feature where we can turn the curved display off to wipe down? I found the power off but once it’s touched with the cloth it turns back on.

Only way I can think of is turning off the display using the OPTION button near the idrive controller and selecting turn off display on the screen. Another idea I would try is do the hard reset by holding down the volume knob, when the screen goes black you could quickly wipe down the screen since it takes about 20 seconds to fully boot back up.

You could, inside driving settings menu you can see this item called "energy recovery in D" you could play around with that setting to get the desired feel.

I noticed in my new BMW i4 the other day that the image of the i4 in the vehicle status widget has changed to a grey generic image of an i4 and longer matches the colour and specification of my i4. i.e. I have a Brooklyn Grey with M Sport package. Have you come across this before and do you know how to correct it?

Could be a software glitch in the system. I know idrive 8 is still having some minor bugs here and there. One thing to try is the iDrive reset (you can do this by holding down the volume button for about 30 secs and let go when the screen goes black) this will fix many issues.

You mentioned when wanting to charge one's vehicle that one is able to choose a certain departure time for when charging is to be completed, but in that context is it also possible - say during winter - to ensure, while charging, that the car is heated to a certain temperature at a given departure time? And secondly, vice versa, when during an extremely hot summer one wants to have the car cooled before departure to a certain temperature, is this possbible? If so how does one go about doing this in iDrive 8.0.........and did I forget to mention this? Another great video!

Thanks for reaching out Eric! Yes, so they are two different scenarios, but both are very similar, I still have yet to test both since it's all new to everyone. But basically, the charge time can be adjusted on the OS8 screen. In terms of heating and cooling, that is done through the MY BMW App; if you see the FAN icon, you can enable it there. But I believe if you scroll down a bit, you should see a small box with the option to schedule your pre-conditioning time.

question! i jut got a 2024 x6, i had iconic sounds a feature to buy, i spent $100 to buy it and its activated but i dont hear any difference? I had asked bmw genius through the car if it was only for EVs because my car is not an ev, they said no, so i got it...i tried driving in all modes and dont hear anything, just my engine... i asked the guy at the dealer and he didnt know. any thoughts?

The only difference it should be making is the amount of amplified engine noise that will play through the cabin, it may be very faint but that should be the only difference. On and it'll play more of the engine sound in the cabin, vice versa.

I've always seen it on for some reason, if you are not seeing it, make sure you have your BMW ID set, along with the MY BMW APP, if that still didn't work, try rebooting the system by holding down the radio volume knob for 30secs.

I can't get my 2023 330i with I8 to edit text in any dictated message. It was easy in my 2020 330i using I7. I won't respond to commands like, "replace text", or "change text".. Thanks

I haven't seen this done in the new ID8 yet. The voice to text detection should be much improved. If there was an issue with the text, I honestly would just repeat the phrase.

Depending on which vehicle you have, if there is not a BC button on the turn indicator stock that you could hold down like the last BMWs. You would simply go into the menu (on the instrument cluster) that shows your total miles and trip computer, and hold down the SCROLLING knob on the steering wheel.

Unfortunately not. iDrive 8 does require a whole different setup of hardware so it is not upgradable.

You would only be able to use one phone with either android auto or apple carplay. You cannot use apple carplay to read emails or respond to them. It will do it for texts but not for emails.

I’ve heard it greatly depends on the laws in your area. Many vehicles here in the US you can turn it off and have it set to individual. For European vehicles I know you do have to disable it every time.

Which year is the 740i? I have a couple Apple Carplay troubleshooting videos on the channel that also should work for Android Auto. I would check those out. I have heard that Android auto is often fussy due to some of their updates and whatnot.

Best way would be through data privacy settings in the iDrive menu. The app will show the last location you were at and keep it there so data privacy settings would have to be de-activated before hand.

Timed charging doesnt work well enough it looks to charge in time to depart, it means i may start earlier then required. No good if you have fix cheap rate, no guanteee it finishes in required time

Agreed, standard features. Majority of owners are very new to the iDrive 8 and obviously are not hidden hidden, but they may require some digging into to get to them!

It's easier in the sense that it's laid out more simple. The ONLY reason iDrive 8 has a slight edge over it is because on iDrive 8, in the main menu, you can key word search what ever you are looking for. Makes life much easy. You can also use voice command to access a menu.

iDrive 7 is just better. This one menus and icons look like a cheap Android tablet (iDrive 8 is actually based on Android afaik) and they made functionallity way way worse.

Yes iDrive 7 is more simple to use, one of the biggest things I do love about iDrive 8 is the search menu where you can simply type in whatever you are looking for and not having to dig through all the menus.

80% rule only really applies to fast Dc changing, if doing at home on 7wk charger charging over 80% wont hurt battery, more damage is done leaving battery fully charged for long periods

Good point, still too early to tell if it does some serious damage or not, BMW does have a message pop up saying it recommends keeping it at 80% max for day to day driving, long trips its fine to go 100. Also keeping the battery between 20 to 80 % is ideal.

Yes the system can get very complicated mainly for the climate control and if you control them manually. For the most part the perks of this new system is the ability to use voice command to get to any menu and also they now have a search box in the main menu to search for anything such as "head up display".
