I'd say it's a testament to how good the E-tron 55 really is and how ahead of the times it was (for all other than Tesla carcompanies) when that car in 2019 holds it's ground vs a 2022 BMW. Battery, engine, aerodynamics and a lot of other tech has come a long way since 2019. I like the color on this BMW, but the front..how can anyone like the front? It legit looks like it's 1 big plastic piece cut out. Looks similar to the front of NASCAR cars or other racing cars where it's just a plastic shell.

Have done one myself, took 14 hours in 1-5°C. Didn't have the heating on though which wasn't needed anyway> 2 people = 200W and never were we cold. Just had it blowing on the front windscreen to prevent it from fogging up haha. And the heat on the rear windshield heating was on also. With a 75kW relatively consistent charging speed had no problems at IONITY & Fastned chargers. I estimate in nicer conditions something in the region of 12.5-13 hours would be possible. Considering minimal up and down, temp 15-25C and minimal wind. Also cruising at 110kph is so much better in the lil fiat.

I think these new EV's have incredibly high consumption. It's insane having 300WH/km. I thought the point was going "green" this also means that we should be using EV's which do not consume that much electricity. I feel that they put big batteries on them, then the consumption is insanely high, they add some good charging speed (so it's still ~20 mins to 80%) and the range stays the same (~300-350km). I drive an MG ZS EV (2019 model) and I get ~160WH/km (when the weather is good) with a range of ~200km on the highway. The car costs 1/4 of what this one does (or any of the new ones). Even with bad weather the highest I have seen on the highway is ~220WH/km. The solution should not be a 100kwh battery, but rather small consumption. EDIT: Not saying that my car has low consumption, but if they manage to get a cheap car with low consumption, I feel that big car companies like BMW and Audi should try their best to have a low consumption on their cars. EDIT2: I came back here to say that in the newest video of Bjorn he got a really good consumption on the iX Drive40. So my point is sort of "bad-ish.." but it still stands. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHSplnRrhbSpbKc&ab_channel=Bj%C3%B8rnNyland

Thanks for the Video, Bjørn. I have a IX40 since Dec last year, and I can confirm your findings on the car. I have to say though that the outside temperature has a big impact on the energy consumption, I think more than 10%. Therefore the iX50 might have the advantage that the bigger battery compensates for that. However, the big price difference is not worth it, from my perspective.
@omarbabakarkhail2 жыл бұрын
Very rarely will you need more range than what your car gives you. The charging speed is also very sufficient, so I’d say you made the right choice.

@MasterChief Actually it is NOT loud inside the IX. At high speed it gets louder, but still less loud than in silent combustion cars. The luggage capacity is limited on paper, however I find it easy to get loaded, and with a bit contemplation and trial a lot of bits and pieces can be put in the compartment.

Bjorn, I have a test request for you. You demonstrated the electrically dimmable skylight. It looks like the skylight can be made to be opaque using electrical current. The question I was wondering if you could address is if the skylight is also opaque to infrared light when it is opaque to visible light? After all, the “raison d’etre” for this feature is to block the heat of the sun, which is mostly in the IR spectrum. I know that you have an IR camera attachment for your phone so it should be possible to make measurements of the degree of attenuation in the IR spectrum. I would think it would be an easy test if you acquire an IR lightbulb (heat-lamp bulb) and perform the testing at night. I suggest placing the lit IR bulb on a support about 1 foot above the outside of the skylight. I would then make IR measurements from inside the car looking up through the skylight with the dimmer off and then on. You might need to place the IR lightbulb in a photo soft-box to diffuse the light if the bulb is too intense and too focal, but with a little trial and error I bet you’ll be able to make good measurements. What we want to know is the INTENSITY of light at the frequency of the IR lightbulb with the skylight roof off and on. All the best.
2 жыл бұрын
You need to know the part of IR that the camera sees, the bulb sends out, and the energy content of it I assume. Probably not trivial. Just measuring the temperature rise in full sun might work though, with a d without current on.
