I use both ATE Blue and Red fluids and take turns with them (Blue on one change, Red on the other) for my changes on everything as it's easier to see when new fluid gets to the associated areas.

question I have a 2000 k1200lt that has sat for 7 years took out the other day and the rear caliper locked up. I know that the brake lines need to be replaced but wondering if a repair kit for the caliper will fix the caliper. The dealership has not seen the bike yet but they are only saying to replace the caliper but there are none in the country right now.

Sorry, I didn't understand one thing, do the drain cocks have to be opened with the key turned on? and then bleeding is done simply by pressing the brake levers until all the air comes out?
@kirksmotorrad
@kirksmotorrad 11 ай бұрын
no. The key does not need to be on for non integrated brakes

@@kirksmotorrad so I open the bleed valves and activate the brake levers to let the air out and that's it? as if I were bleeding the brakes of a motorcycle without ABS

Great video but I have a question. What is the attachment on the end of the Mity Vac hose that you attach to the caliper? Also, it appears that you are leaving the bleed valve open on the caliper and then squeezing the Mity Vac handle. Doesn't this induce air into the system, or am I missing something? My Mity Vac doesn't have that attachment on the caliper end of the hose. Where is that available? Maybe it's a one way valve so the air doesn't go into the system? Also, have you used a pneumatic bleeder and what are your thoughts on it?

How do i know whether my 2005 K1200LT has integrated ABS or not? I do not hear the "servo" sound that people talk about when turning the key.

I replaced the ABS module on my LT 1200 from 1999, do I have to bleed the abdomen and front and rear calipers? I bled my abdomen and now when I brake it blocks the rear wheel, what should I do to solve the problem? Thanks

Hi Kirk I followed your procedure but when I got to the ABS Module part I tried to pull a vacuum and released the bleeding nipple but not nothing really came out? I am obviously doing something wrong?
@kirksmotorrad
@kirksmotorrad Жыл бұрын
Try to manually pump the brake with the bleeder open. Something may be stuck in the line if you still have the OE rubber ones.

@@kirksmotorradThank you I have the after marker version, I went ahead and manually pump the break and got some fluid coming out I am just not sure how much should really come out. It was clear fluid at least. I will do the back brake tonight and see if the flashing ABS light will go away. I tried multiple times to reset the ABS module by using the alligator clip method on the pin 21. If it still bad then I assume I need the ABS module repaired or replaced. I rode it last weekend with the ABS light flashing for 150mils (maybe not such a good idea) Just to get some "cobb webs" out of the bike.

art reinhardt the brake fluid runs through the abs unit to the wheels. what is the advantage of bleeding the abs unit if the lines to it have not been removed? bleed at calipers until clear.
@kirksmotorrad
@kirksmotorrad 9 жыл бұрын
Debra Reinhardt There is still residual old brake fluid in passages of the ABS. The few extra minutes it takes to bleed the ABS unit is worth it in my mind since it is so expensive to replace.

Hi, I have a problem so if you could help me I would be grateful. After my brake oil pipe burst, I irradiated the brakes according to your video, but at one point I didn’t pay attention to the upper oil tank located on the steering wheel and I think the pump pulled my air. After that I irradiated the pump according to the video but the pump is constantly buzzing. when I make contact with the key it does not buzz and when I apply the foot brake the pump starts buzzing. I irradiated the ABS pump but the pump still buzzes. Thank you in advance

It sounds like your ABS is broken and needs to be either replaced, repaired or bypassed.

I just bought a 2002 K1200LT and it's wonderful BUT the ABS is blinking. previous owner recently had the system bled and braided lines put in....Not Cheap! but the lights came back on soon afterwards. The brakes work just fine but now, and as I look on YT, I see conflicting info on the ABS.... some ABS seem to fail and no brakes and some fail and brakes are just fine. Like Mine, so far. Do I need to do something? Bike has been serviced by dealer since new.. They want $3000 for parts and $1500 labor +/- which seems to be the going price. I'd just as soon remove the ABS system. Or ignore it. Opinions??

I am replacing the stock lines on my 99 LT with Spiegler SS in the next couple days...I assume to lower the level in the ABS unit and the reservoirs before pulling the lines off. I know the system will be open, but filling should be the same as this procedure, correct?

I always learn a lot from your videos, Kirk. Do you have anything on what may cause the reverse to stop working on an LT? I may have found one, but the reverse is not working as well as the abs. It's a 2000. Seeing that you're very familiar with the LT, I thought who better to ask about this than you. What should I look for, and is it worth pursuing the bike? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Check your fuses first. The ABS and Reverse are not related. Maybe the reverse module is burned out or the speed sensor the trans needs to be cleaned. Follow up with me at kirksmotorrad.com
