3:40: I once had a pre-owned K75 in wich the gearbox input spline wasn't lubricated after assembly. This 5 cent omission (by the previous owner) landed me with a $2000 repair bill. Lubing said part is dirt cheap and could save you thousands of $$$ in repair bills... Other than that, the K75 was a excellent motorcycle!!

You experienced the major problem on those bikes. The lubing of that and the driveshaft. That sucks. It's not even a difficult job,just to remove the half of the bike lol I think it's their only real "problem".

Working all day on your knees sounds like a job that would be hard on your back. It's very interesting to see this come apart, and even more interesting to see it come back to life. Some parts look very familiar to similar parts in a car. Good job!

Nice bikes. i just saw an old flat yesterday afternoon they are quite rare and they sound very nice,it's round and muffled. very thin shape.

Yes ,not fun but to put together you have to remove parts first. It's just at this moment you find missing or worn out parts.,so i buy and put together while adapting and modifying at the same time. As you saw i'm outside,so to move the bike to park and protect it, i have to remount several parts each time.

Yes it would be cool : ) but i don't have too much money to put in for now. I will start it first and see where i'm at with the upgrades.

It's a RT bike that i'm lightening and modifying a bit with upgrades and mods,that's why i remove and reinstall parts several times. i just saw cracked intake boots : (

I know,i know i'm a bad boy, but i didn't want to make 150 km for 3 bolts. I will re do it a bit later with the proper bolts for the clutch and the proper grease on the splines too. i just did the way i could it was "a training" first time. : )

I have the manual ,i have the torque wrench, i watch Mr Harris channel too lol... 2 hours ago i was removing the whole intake, airbox etc and changed 3 times the radiator, hoses, removed the whole front end and remounted it just to check my set up. i'm rebuilding the forks and waiting for parts. i'm not concerned about torques etc right now i'm just assembling disassemblng things. When the bike will be complete i will follow the manual to the letter.

Im glad you saw the light and warmed up, the weather can make even simple jobs misrable :-( But you won :-), its back together and i hope the clutch plates were thick enough, so they should work ok :-) The bmw engine is a heavy beast to work on, lets hope you dont have to struggle with it again for a looooooooooong time lol :-)

When you go to take it apart again, you are going to have to use a torch to soften that red Loctite.
@GarthGoldberg11 жыл бұрын
I know you're doing it in your patio, but you can still do some things right. Get yourself a torque wrench. All those bolts connecting the frame and the engine/gearbox assembly should be properly torqued. You need to install and torque the fixed pin for the swingarm pivot BEFORE torquing the adjustable pin.

Working on a BMW with no copper anti-seize or torque wrench in sight....what would Chris Harris say? Also, not sure I’d break a bike down that far and NOT put in a new clutch. But then, I don’t know his story.

lol i'm not into coffe or tea,but i have a milk/chocolate like the kids. : ) i stop and go in the warm kitchen for that. it too cold outside. Yeah the engine is quite heavy i nearly crashed it because it was humid while i moved it.

What bike have you got ? : )
@zx8401ztv12 жыл бұрын
I noticed the Dry part, no tea/coffee or anything else to lubricate the brain lol :-) A tea/coffee break gives you time to think, and raid the biscuit selection ha ha :-) Smashing job, what a heavy lump... the engine i mean he he :-)

I would not put that much moly into the clutch plate itself. it might get onto the friction disk and clutch plates resulting in clutch slip. its more then enough just to put it on the transmission side splines. Great video though, helped me a lot

Chris Harris is great. I wish KZbin and his videos had existed 30 years ago when I bought my first BMW. But be careful, as he sometimes leaves important steps assumed or unstated.
@metusla10 жыл бұрын
your smart and a good mechanic you do not need a torque wrench for everything.
@michaelovitch10 жыл бұрын
Thank you : ) I agree,torque wrench is to use quite rarely,on specific or critical stuff. to be used as it should bolts and threads must be cleaned,or cleaned and oiled. it's quite a problem when you have dozens or hundred of them when working on vehicles.

What is the thickness of the cylinder disc while it is new in millimeters? Thank you very much
@michaelovitch2 жыл бұрын
5.05 to 5.55 mm thickness when new. You service it at 4.50 mm when worn out. : )
@GarthGoldberg11 жыл бұрын
You should be using NEW clutch bolts, torqued to proper specification, without Loctite (especially RED Loctite).

I'm blocked,i can't speak, it's not natural for me. I usually speak very little in life,i mostly ask questions. Thank you for your question,i didn't know what modicum is,now i know. I try to improve my videos,i know i have to speak for that,at least to describe an introductive context. I will try to do that,i have a video on a clutch replacement on the bike. It's not easy for me,i don't complain,it's just my problem.
