Why would you want to heel and toe in that 😂
@MarkCup70
@MarkCup70 4 жыл бұрын
Why wouldn't you? Rev matching is something you SHOULD do in any manual car!
@simonnelson7770
@simonnelson7770 4 жыл бұрын
MarkCup70 it's not necessary in every manual car and hasn't been since synchro mesh gear boxes were introduced. If your pushing on in a fast car on a track, then yes maybe, on a trip to uni then honestly why would you?
@MarkCup70
@MarkCup70 4 жыл бұрын
I get it now, you're confusing double declutching with simple rev matching, the two things achieve completely different things. Double declutching matches the rotational speeds of the input and output shafts within a gearbox so that the gears mesh without crunching. Rev matching aims to match the rotational speeds of the flywheel and the gearbox input shaft. Agreed completely that synchro 'boxes mean double declutching isn't needed for most modern cars. Rev matching is ALWAYS beneficial though, it limits wear and strain on the drivetrain and clutch and removes uncontrolled weight transfer which can unbalance the car when down shifting.
@simonnelson7770
@simonnelson7770 4 жыл бұрын
MarkCup70 I'm not confusing the two things I'm simply saying that there's no need to drive your daughters tiny little car like your on a race track, you really don't need to heel and toe a city car. The synchro mesh will allow you to change down in normal driving circumstances, however if your driving it on a track and changing down hard then heel and toe would help. I'm guessing though that your daughter won't be using it for that so I stick to my point of suggesting this is pointless but thanks for copying and pasting information on double de clutching👍
@MarkCup70
@MarkCup70 4 жыл бұрын
Double declutching helps you select a gear, that's what a synchromesh does, it helps the gear engage nothing more. Rev matching is about driving the car smoothly...hence why you should ALWAYS do it! If you can't grasp that or accept that you're completely wrong, so be it, you go off and revel in your ignorance and be happy. Thanks for the compliment by the way, not one word of what I wrote was copied from anywhere...it's simply something I know because I have a basic understanding of how a car's drivetrain works from learning how to drive a car properly, which includes rev matching every downshift.

My son started his driving career in a 1.0 3 cylinder VW UP! Great little car and the 3 cylinder sounds are great. He was always moaning about the lack of power but i found it fun trying to get the most out of it. As you said, it teaches you to be smooth and how important momentum is. Plan ahead and keep it rolling!

I always used to say similar to kids that’d come up to me when I was in my GTR’s or evos.. It’d be “ah I wish I had one” but just enjoy what you’ve got, everyone is reaching for ‘better’ but often the best motoring memories are of your first cars.

When I take my 500bhp S4 in for service/repairs/upgrades they have 1.0 turbo Seat Ibiza courtesy cars. I’ve not had as much fun in a car in years as I do in them things. I’d forgotten the fun of a fwd hatch on the limit through the corners and the way you have to wring the things neck to make progress is adictive. I can’t stop looking at 500 Abarths now to use for a bit of fun.

The 107 was also my first car. I remember stalling it so many times as the clutch was incredibly high (and maybe on its last legs haha). Not bad cars but when I moved onto a new Fiesta it was night and day! Good first cars though

Great cars those Peugeot 107. We ran one for 8 years. Watch for water ingress around rear lights (inc brake light) and bumper vents. Tapping noises from cold is piston slap (common, and not really a problem). Exhausts Rot around the rear mounts, cheap easy fix. Very cheap & easy to maintain yourself though! Clutches are also a common problem, but cheap enough to replace. Engine is derived from Daihatsu (Toyota), and generally strong, but do wear if driven hard - ours started using oil at 40,000 miles and had to move up a grade to 5w40.

I can relate. Every now and again I will leave the M410i on the drive and take out my partner's VW UP! And the thing is a laugh. For such a small car it really is nippy around town and you can throw it about. Does make a nice change from my 140i. However when there's a long piece of straight road I know which i'd rather be in :)

Recently went to PS4’s on my m140 and didn’t like them at all for the first few weeks, the car felt all over the place and only really settled down after 6 or 700 miles. Just be aware.. Still on the standard Mich Pilot SS on my M140i, a good all round tyre however the other day whilst entering a M-way slip road off a roundabout (in sport+) I accelerated to get up to 70 and completely lost control, proper tank slapper. Shook me up a fair bit. Luckily it was late and no one else on the road. Possibly nothing to do with the tyres, still 4mm tread on rear. I admit my talents pretty much cease when it comes to oversteer, maybe I need a training course!

Haa great vid 👍 a friend in the trade lent me this goofy looking Korean made 3 cylinder town car. Can’t for the life of me remember the model but it had that Porsche air cooled almost whine from the engine above 4K. Revved to the moon too (no tacho) Didn’t handle unfortunately, but the screaming 3 pot was enough to see me in the driving seat when my car was a V6 156. Edit, may have been a Daihatsu Sirion from the late 90’s?

Great video Mark! It’s mad that the sound a bit like a 911 🤣 had a 1.0 fiesta turbo the other day when Mustang was in for a service - sounded great, so much more character than the 4 pot. It actually felt to me not special. Ironically I nearly got stopped by an unmarked police car on the way to work in it but that’s another story! Got me thinking the new Fiesta ST would be nice as it’s a lot more grown up inside now. I don’t think you’ve gone mad here, I find myself grabbing the keys for my wife’s Fiat 500 more and more. I try to set a monetary limit in the fuel I use every month and it’s spread between our transit custom camper, the Mustang and the Fiat, so more often than not the Mustang ends up sat on the drive for the last week of the month with enough left to get to the petrol station! I love the little Fiat, it’s the same power as your 107 but a 1.2 8v so doesn’t want to rev. It’s strange going from a fast rear wheel drive car to these things, feels like there so much time to think before a corner, then realise all you need to do is keep your foot down and steer! They’re great fun apart from people thinking it won’t hurt if they pull out in front of you - even pedestrians aren’t scared of them 😂

Call me pedantic, but why when driving on the public road would you have your traction control switched off?. Yes I know you have a LSD, but you aren't on the track and so shouldn't safety be higher on the priority list?.

@@MarkCup70 Yeah I understand that, fine on a track, not so great on the public roads. The whole point of such systems is to prevent "breaking traction" so it keeps you safe and other members of the public safe. I.e. so you don't oversteer into some unsuspecting member of the public. Like I said fine and great on the track, that's what a track is for!.

Driving a car like that with so little power hard which appears to be happening is a recipe for disaster. I have always found low powered cars are dangerous to push on in.
