Actually the engine sound for the M3 GTR was taken from a TVR Cerbera which also had a 4.0 V8. The file of the engine sound is referred to as tvr_cerb

The closest engine you can get in a normal car is the S65 V8 from the E92 M3. That with a proper exhaust and a similar gearbox would be the closest BMW-related engine you could get for a reasonable pricerange. Look up E92 M3 Track-videos, you can generally hear, the more track-focused they get, aka shortshifter, race-ready exhaust, possible tune, possible alpha n setup, etc, the closer they get to this. From what i know, the S65 was also influenced by the P60, which makes sense as it was a high revving, sport oriented aluminium V8.

That's because the sounds used in the game were from this car. The NFSMW M3 GTR it's just an "NFS edition" of the Original M3 from LeMans, using the V1 GTR Kit.

@@cineflow0538 But ironically it does sound like TVR Cerbera (mostly from the interior since the exhaust sound is bit more aggressive it is like the Burnout's TVR Cerbera sound): kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zqe9hItvqbCWZs0 But even funnier that there are 2 sound files that are exactly the same but named GIN_TVR_Cerbera.gin (which is only used by the regular race M3 GTR) while GIN_TVR_Chimeara.gin (is used by the Careerstart GTR and the Street version). Overall it is the exact same sound just different name. Also stock Renault Clio V6 uses also another TVR sound called GIN_TVR_Tuscan.gin. Still weird to see how Black Box were able to record TVRs but never put them into any NFS.

@@ManLikeEddy I wonder why some race cars have those, the Lotus 49 apparently had a sequential with H-pattern as well and I don't understand what the benefit would be and how it would even work? Maybe it locks all but the neighboring gear from any given position, but I imagine it could still cause some confusion as opposed to just pushing/pulling a shifter.

Actually that's not entirely true. Ya they used alot of the real engine sound but the M3 GTR is if I'm not wrong is the only car that doesn't have a P60B40 engine sound sure it's the sound of a V8 but the engine sound is actually from a TVR Cerbera idk why they never used the real engine sound that part will always be a mystery. I've read online that BMW just didn't want EA recording the sound of that beautiful sounding engine but that's probably a rumor there could be a lot more possibilities why they didn't record the real sounds. Also I agree best NFS ever I grew playing it on the PS2
