BMW M3 Touring build: Part 1

That's right, we're building a BMW (E46) M3 Touring!
It's a perfect time as BMW will unveil their first-ever official M3 Touring (G81) this year, plus it's also BMW M's 50th-year celebrations so what better way than to create our own version of the car that was never made....

Kind of blown away at the cracked floor in that 318. I've got a E46 Touring that started it's life as a b25, its at 95K miles now and 5000 miles ago I put a b30 in it. I had read that the tourings are much stronger in the RACP and I shouldn't be too concerned with a cracked floor. This has absolutely changed my mind and I'll be at the very least adding plates. Thank you for this video, I'll be following this build!

Each e46 (with the exception of the Compact) shares the same RACP. However, there has been a substantial design change in March of 2000. The RACP´s spotwelds were placed elsewhere and the threaded sleeve was reinforced... I assume that this Touring may have been built before March of 2000....

I don't own a BMW but got fascinated by them watching another KZbin channel. The channel l watched is M539 Restorations. Again an in depth channel. Mainly taking V12 etc engines apart and re building them from the bottom up. But your channel l stumbled upon a day or two ago.l must admit the concourse de elegance qualifications you done on the underside of that BMW was astounding. The care you took to do it was amazing. I shall be watching all your videos from now on. Especially how you are doing that estate car. I will say l did and still do love the BMW 3.0 csi of the 70s.Sleek body shell ,huge glass area. A thing of beauty and seeing them race in the DTM when fully modified was great. Will watch you with interest on your channel. By the way l live in Greece 🇬🇷.

Love your channel and especially the level of work and detail, excellent. I came across your channel searching for information on doing underside refresh. My car is a 2008 Lexus isf 5.0 V8, 126000 miles and its showing its age and suffering surface rust. I've dropped subframe and fuel tank to get access to all the floor. Thinking of having all removable brackets along with subframe hot dip galvanised.

Well, this is enlightening. My brother has a 2000 323i sedan (automatic) which by all appearances is a time capsule with about as much rust as you'll find on a 2 year old car today. I just messaged him to ask the exact build date of it...may be needing some RACP work indeed.

Did 2002 convertibles suffer from this? My 320ci manual is on 257k miles now and no signs of cracks. I’m yet to remove the subframe though as there’s some surface rust I need to tackle
