S58 has thinner connecting rods making them more prone to bend with high torque numbers, still can carry more HP with forged pistons at the top of RPM range but built B58s are faster so far than built S58s

I'd like to add that the stock intake of G80/82 M3/M4 is also very capable, totally fine with 800bhp mod and tune. OEM air filters for S58, which are cheap and maintenance-free, are good for any applications without compromising the engline life in comparison with the oily racing air filters. BTW I personally doubt if B58TU2 can make 500+ wheel horsepower due to offset crankshaft. The integrated cast exhaust manifold is also a significant concern burdening the less-than-racing-capable cooling system of B58TU2.

As a BMW tech the BMW quality has severely gone downhill in the last few years to the degree that they are an insult to German ingenuity

BMW engines have gotten BETTER in the last 5 years what are you talking about. Just due to the B-series engines, BMWs reliability ranking has skyrocketed to top 3 brands alongside Toyota/Lexus. BMW cars are more reliable than they've ever been. It's Mercedes that has gone rock-bottom mechanically speaking. Mercedes engineering peaked at the 1990s with the W124 and W140 generations.
