I have a 525d LCI 3.0 6 cyl from 2007 which I have owned for 10 years now, and it's around 452.000 km now. Same timing chain, turbo, complete exhaust with DPF and automatic gearbox. It has been having the slightly rattling chain sound for the last 200.000 km or so. I believe it will not break. After 250.000 km I began changing oil around every 12-15.000 km and not 25-30.000 km as recommended by the system. That probably helped on longevity.

@@saynotothegreatreset I know, but still it's alive after further 200.000 km. At least once a year I let it run for prolonged time on German highway at speeds up to 230 km/h. No issues yet. I never modified or chip-tuned it, it's completely at stock spec.

doubt it is chain rattle. on m57 there is no sounds even when chain starting to eat a hole in cover. it just snaps and bye bye

Crank, please keep the M57 timing chain videos coming, just like this. It is perfectly edited with sound of engine before replacing, what you find during the replacement and how it sounds after replacement. I have two M57. 2009 525XD and 2007 X5 3.0D. I'm from Norway, but I am considering driving all the way to Bulgaria to have the chains replaced on my X5 at your workshop, as I highly respect how good you are with these engines. Is it possible to send you a message or email?

I have E39 530d, valve stem seals gone at 353k km. Original chain, almost no stretch, but all new Injectors, HPFP, and turbo.

e39 has different high pressure pump that has much lower pressure than the one used in m57n2 engines

it does not matter, bicycle chain is too weak for an engine with that power

14:20 should the lip on both crankshaft seals point in or out? It’s hard to see in the video.

This engine was not taken care of properly, you can see it especially on main bearings.

How do some people do an easy oil change at 20k km, i have a 530d and i change my oil and filters every 8-10k km my car has 570k km and i had 0 issues.

this is normal the turbo is sucking oil vapor from the crankcase ventilation

check your crankcase ventilation if your turbo has to much oil , you will have a lot of oil in the intake manifold too

Hey what do you recommend i do? After engine rebuild, the head bolts are torqued incorrectly with bad torque wrench as there is inconsistencies when doing 90* + 90* . I want to try again with new and better quality torque wrench. Do i need to use new bolts and head gasket again? Or can I attempt to re-torque with the bolts/headgasket i have already. Thanks

You can try your luck, with changing the head bolts one by one. Removing one, installing new one torquing it and so on..

@ unfortunately I’ve already loosened all the bolts.. that wouldve been a good idea. Thanks for the videos though they have been super helpful for my first engine rebuild

@@crank3646 А дали ще имаш идея от какво може да е тон бял дим, като излезе от синьото и преди да загрее. Смених гарнитура, шлайф, гарнитури на масления радиатор и блока, Ново турбо, нов дебитомер, чист Egr, Не е пушила преди да сменя гарнитурата. След смяната на гарнитурата 20км нищо и като постоя се почна на палене, пали на пол. оборот, работи равноюерно.. Не съм нацелил тайминга ли... В топло време не излиза нищо друго освен миризма... 60км вече мина и пак 😭

The main bearings looked horrible The rod bearings looked ok I wouldn’t feel bad reusing those but did you over charge him on main bearings and that’s why he decided to not change them ?? As far as I know rod and main bearings really are not expensive at all it was really dumb to put the worn ones back in..

We install only OEM bearings on these engines, because the aftermarket ones have shown issues during the years. So OEM ones are expensive yes

@ Well it’s still a shame to plant a time bomb in an otherwise perfectly good engine.. The owner must not know that much about cars demanding to put the old ones back like that. Also there are really good bearings at affordable prices in the aftermarket(ACL,King,Kolbenschmidt,etc) but each to their own I guess.

@@gerhardorosz7984 If it was my car, I was going to replace everything with OEM parts, but its not. I do what I'm paid to do. I had enough issues with aftermarket bearings, like some of the ones that you mentioned, so I don't plan to use them from now on, except ACL maybe. But this comes with experiences and checking which bearings holds and which does not. They will hold for 40-50k km but from there on, only OEMs hold in most of the cases.

жалко за собственика, но типичната "мистерия" с кола 2ра употреба по нашите (и близки) ширини ... някой взема нещо което някой друг е пресметнал че за да се отремонтира е нерентабилно (за него) ... прави се "изгоден" ремонт и "всичко е точно" ... цялото това инфо се спестява, измива се и се снима "продукта" ... идва човека казват му "реални км нищо скрито покрито няма" жив и здрави ... и после следват такива клипове и хората си скубят косите и си дават парите , но поне са попаднали на коректен сервиз и този път нещата ще са свършени както трябва
