Genius! Thankyou for sharing. Ive been servicing my own cars since I was a teenager and hubby now has a 2017 230i F22 and now that its out of warranty I cant wait to get my hands on it. Magnetic sump plugs are so important I hate that they dont come with the cars anymore.

Thank you! It's a great car to work on and I love how BMW stuck to the same handful of sizes when it comes to screws, nuts and bolts. Saves so much time rather than switching out bits. I couldn't agree more about the magnetic plug, got to have it!

great video! one other hint I think will be helpful is don't fill up all the way to 7L, it's easier to measure and refill if you don't have enough than to drain and add more . Also I think there is a reset you can do on the dashboard to let the computer know the oil has been changed so it stops giving you the notification.

Just did another oil change with Castrol Edge 5w40 euro spec. Been over 2 years but only 8K miles. Edge euro spec guaranteed for 15K, but 8 was good enough and the Edge oil on special for $7 quart and change. Watched the vid again to refresh the procedure. Excellent content, sure makes it easy peasy...

Good content, have a few additions. Appropriate to spend an extra minute on oil. BMW LLL1 approved is very important. Liquid Moly has several variants, though more expensive and harder to find. Castrol Edge states approval in microfiche on the back label. NAPA has only the 5w40 variant of Edge, which is approved unless one can find the 5w30 A3/B4. The A3/B4 immediately after the weight. Oddly Castrol also has "regular" 5w30 that is not approved! . Draining is a bit of a pain as drain pan runs into jack end unless jack stands are used which don't fit the jack points well. Filling is also a pain as funnel does not sit well in angled BMW oil fill spot requiring holding it in position. Reset is odd in that it offers several mileage options... Typical BMW Nothing impossible, with said quirks.

Great video I've ordered all the parts so this is a great help. I need to change my oil level sensor at the same time so perfect timing with the oil change. Any chance do you know the torque specs for those 3 nuts? Interwebs all show something different. I've seen some people say 10nm and some say 25nm the same as the drain plug/oil filter housing.

Hi Fritz. My son purchased a 2016 228i X drive, and I cannot locate the oil drain plug as there is no "cut out" found. Do I need to remove the large fabric panels to locate the plug? Thank you for you assistance and much appreciated!

Great video! My wife's f23 just went out of warranty so I'm changing the oil soon. Love the upgraded parts. I didn't see a crush washer on the oil plug, is that right? Also, how do you reset the service warning in this car? Do you need a code reader? Thanks!

The crush washer is included with the filter. To rest the light, hold down the trip reset button (the milage will drop to zero and then enter the option to select if you want to reset the oil service light).

the m235i has a n55 motor you have the upgraded b58👍 a 40 weight in a sports car especially in a turbo since these cars run hot. 0 because it's easier on the motor on start up, but recently I changed to a 5-40 just to see.

@@FritzRamos i have fixed valve cover gasket leak,oil pan gasket leak,rear main seal leak.Did an oil change and after 3k miles my measurement was on MIN! Added 1 quarter after 2 days went down again on MIN.Drained it the next day we took out 6.5 quarters.Added 6.5 quarters of oil changed the oil sensor and after 300miles it went down from MAX.where does the oil go?NO smoke from the exhaust!thank you Fritz

It's not a matter of doing work vs saving money. Most car enthusiasts enjoy performing maintenance on their cars and keeping them in top running condition. I haven't let a garage change the oil on my cars in many years. When I do it, I know it's done right, and I don't wind up with any new dents or stains on the seats from careless mechanics who are working on a timer.
