This should be done a lot more often than every 10 years. It is supposed to be filled "lifetime" which is about as true as the "lifetime" filled transmissions. "Lifetime" seems to equate to "warranty lifetime" as far as BMW, and other manufacturers are concerned. 40-50k miles, similar to the frequency for auto transmission fluid and filter change, is what is required.

BTW, this doesn't apply to all BMWs, would be helpful if the title qualified what models/years this applies to.

for my hyundai azera i learned very late that this forgotten steering fluid reservoir have built in filter! & when it's clogged it causes poor stability or some times dangerous drive! i was pulling my hair to figure out the cause unstable steering my car!
