Thanks Paul. Yes, in the next couple of days, she'll be back on her wheels again. Amazing how quickly it's all starting to come together.

Now that you've cleaned the inside of the tank I would seal it with Por 15. Did this to a tank 25 years ago and it's still doing its job, especially now with ethanol fuel.

What i learned from the Brad pit's R100, the tank should be lined. Maybe you wanna trow in some aquarium stone split and shake it a some time and have it lined by some specialist. 7:29 on the R1100's the thing with pivot's is done better, the one right side can be turned in fully and torqued and the one on the left is adjustable with a counter nut (... and these are quite expensive for what they are), like yours. Also the center stand is wel toughed out on the R1100's and the successors. You can remove the gearbox and it stays there. as wel the grip hidden in the fearing makes a peace of cake or effortless to place the bike on the center stand and that's something really amazing considering it's 225kg, dry.

Thanks for the info. I used electrolysis to derust the tank. Most of the lining came off with the rust. I might get it relined however there is a high risk of damaging the new paint as 100% of the remaining liner would need to be stripped with acid.
@AnalogDude_

Well, the day or hours before the "acid" is applied mask the whole tank with this masking tape and plastic foil. several layers and remove this fast, otherwise the glue of the tape will get stuck on the paint. : ) There is another very cool bike worth mentioning: BMW R1150 Rockster. it has a "custom" telelever wishbone under de tank. witch is a very cool part.@@WildlifeMoto

maybe if you cut a 500ml soft drink can, unroll it and make a hole where the filler opening of the tank barely fits through and paste that over the carefully masked tank for extra protection against the acid or a metal sheet for a car's fender or so, might help or mural plaster over the masking tape. @@WildlifeMoto

Nicely going! Can you do a short video or something on the new sidestand? How it looks and how the bike stands wirh it. I have been trying to figure what would be good sidestand for my 1983 r100, but the info seems pretty mixed..

I always had the steering dampers set on 3 on my R90S & R100S and they were never as stiff as yours, mind you I always had the handlebars on but even so ! I’m interested in what you think of the Sizzapp when you are all done. I seem to recall that Bike magazine referred to the top yoke cover quoting the BMW blurb as being there for “passive safety”, I always thought that they were horrible although original on your model. Similarly I preferred the old style air box and even more so the old style rocker covers. Whatever, your bike is going to look better than when it came out of the factory when you are finished ! 🇬🇧

I'll get the bars on a see how it feels. I remember it being pretty stiff before, I hope I didn't fit it wrong! This is the newer Stabilus version, so maybe it has more dampening at the highest setting? I think the crash pad will stay off. I'll get a video up once I have the Sizzapp working. Cheers.

Enjoyed the vid, thanks Mr WM. For me, the origninal top yolk pad would stay........but the minging hose clips securing the bottoms of the fork gaiters would deffo have to go!! They look so glaringly 'Heath Robinson' and aftermarket to me that they hurt my retinas (but maybe they are genuine BMW styleee?). IMHO some wide black cable ties fitted in such a way so the 'lock blocks' are hidden behind/between slider and mudguard would be much more unobtrusive and pleasing to the eye (cue a hail of t'internet abuse). With regard to the airbox, I too prefer the earlier style, but would suggest maybe going with what you've got at the moment (on the grounds of originality and cost), and if it really irritates then change it at a later date.

The gaiter clips are indeed original BMW parts. They even have little BMW logos on them. I do agree with you though, not the prettiest are they. I will probably do the airbox at some point, but I’m just going to get it up and running first. I’ll save that for the next stage of tinkering. Cheers 👍

I have a toaster tan cnc top yoke. @@WildlifeMoto Over time it tarnishes and unless you can be bothered polishing it all the time, I'd suggest keeping that expensive to replace crash pad until you're sure.
