As a European I must say: impressive to me is the emptiness of the roads. But also impressive is the facts there are no bends at all :-)!! You don't use the sidewalls of your tires, do you? The contrast with driving a motorcycle here in Austria couldn't be bigger. Twisty roads, much more traffic, and a lot of rain... Thank you for your effort of recording and posting your journey.

I can't judge whether wet and windy is better than straight and dry, but it sure is different. You are 100% correct that the tyre wears out in the middle only. Riding the Triumph (in another video) I was very careful not to push too hard else I would not make it across Australia before needing new rubber!

My guess is that servo with the locked bowsers, has probably had a few drive-offs... Nice bike..

That fuel stop was setup as a fully automated, unmanned station as part of an aboriginal cooperative. I crapped myself when I discovered it was out of order...

Cool ride! You're spot on about the Kimba rest area. Absolutley brilliant. A lot of councils could learn from it.

When I went to WA from Queensland heading for the border run on My 83 R100RT, I couldn’t believe the numbers of goats, when I go out around Cobar, I expected pigs and other road side wanderers. The charge issue, was it the diode board. ?
@jl9918255 ай бұрын
They are in huge numbers, and they aren't afraid. I've not troubleshooted the charging issue and it hasn't raised its ugly head since.

@@jl991825 Could be an export opportunity for goat meat. I had similar issues with charging, was the diode board. Yours must have been something else. Anyhow, mines been a faithful servant for 40 years, never let me down at all. Bloody marvellous weapon, BMW, nothing like the rubbish they sell these days. I’ll never part with her, so you could say over my dead body !

Just a question. How far are you getting to a tank?
@jl991825 Жыл бұрын
I'm getting appalling mileage. I only get about 250km out of a tank. I'll be checking out the reason in a future project video
@robwhite4615 ай бұрын
My old RT gets 320-350 a tank depending how heavy I am on the throttle.

Nice video.👍 Question if i can? I have a little crush on these bikes - fancy one to keep my 1984 Goldwing company BUT I hear the wind blast is pretty bad for a tourer. True?
@jl991825 Жыл бұрын
Hey there. I'm nearly 6'2" and didn't really notice wind blast as such. It definitely didn't react to passing trucks like the Triumph. It generally felt pretty aerodynamic. My only gripe was the gearshift placement. You find your foot having a fight with the fairing to locate it.

I am in the market for a BMW soon, and have also come across comments like this, but apparently it is very dependent on your height and riding position. Some people find them fantastic, others prefer other motorcycles.
@duncanjowett55759 ай бұрын
@MorningNapalm fair comment. So many variables. Rider height etc. For example how critical it is - I have currently gone retro, Full Dad Bike mode and am riding a 1984 Goldwing (Yeahh Baby). Now, behind that barn door fairing & huge screen in my Bell Custom 500, all is peaceful calm and serene. BUT if I wear my AGV adv style helmet - someone is rapidly and continuously smacking me on the back of my head. Just go for it & make the best ❤️
