Thanks for making this video! I have a 1993 r1100rs and i had my motorcycle sputter and lose power last year when it started to rain. After walking 3 miles to work and coming back to the bike, it dried off and i was able to ride it back home! This will work and i will have to check the kickstand from time to time.

thanks. Great video. great story. what color are the two wires you spliced.... or which one don't you join to the splice?

When u have 3 wires of different colors then u say what colors go together not middle and back from what I'm looking at all the wires r side by side

I just want to say thanks for this video. My 09 rt-p started intermittently cutting out and then surging after bouncing it down a kerb and hearing something hit the ground. I isolated it and the bikes been fine ever since. The surging was the switch killing the engine for a split second and then the fuel injection over compensating, not fun half way through an overtake

This is a very useful tip for any BMW! I was on a trip in Africa and my travel buddy smacked a rock which sheared off the spring's bracket on the kickstand. The only thing available to tie the kickstand up it for a while was rubber bands and the 'play' was often enough to engage the switch and kill the engine. Not a lot of fun!

Thank you for sharing this with us. Should the side stand have side movement as well as the normal up and down movement ??? Regards Patrick Porter. Bmwr1200rt X police bike 🏍

So once you connect the negative & ground wire together where can you plug the 3rd wire into if the opposing connector was ripped out of the harness ?

I did it, it really works cheers

Helllo Johnston- nice and educ video- Don't you have made a video How To Check and Re-Torque the Central and Side Stand of the RT ? (I own the R1200R of 2007)

Thanks for the tip. I hope to never need it, but it's good to know.

I just picked up a primo '97 R850R with 10K miles. I haven't looked but I assume the same basic method applies, though I doubt it has a module. One other guy has a video where he cut the red and white wires and spliced them together, same result. Now, if I can find out how to replace the fuel sender in the tank, the Haines DIY book says nothing on this. Anyone?

Chris, Do you know if the wiring connection to bypass the kickstand switch is the same on the 1100rt?
@IdahoLife9 жыл бұрын
Kerry Schoolfield I can't say for certain, but I imagine it's the same. The 1100 has the same safety feature (engine dies when kickstand goes down), so I was naturally assume BMW kept it all the same. Good luck!

Why not just disconnect the plug and jump the connectors inside the end of the plug? This way, there are no wires cut and it can be returned to factory config easily.
@IdahoLife10 жыл бұрын
Another perfectly viable option.
@nokoolaid10 жыл бұрын
Chris Johnston OK, just wondering if there was a reason for the way you did it.

I know it is an old video but would you mind explaining James' response. How do you disconnect and jump the plug? Thanks in advance.

Couldn’t even push start it my push start button didn’t work so I push started it so that kick stand switch wouldn’t be the problem

Its a little bit dangerous though it can jump if you forgot to pull the clutch lever
