Several magazine reviews of the Euro4 compliant R1200GS showed a decrease in rear wheel power, despite there being no change on the spec sheet. Do you suppose that the Shift Cam is there to get the power back and smooth out the low end, with a bigger displacement to sweeten the pot? In my opinion, MCN and its sister magazines set the standard. Too bad they're so dear in the US, and that the online version is not as good as print.
@rantANDrave19876 жыл бұрын
Ted Crum good point. I think with Euro 4 and 5, a lot of these new advancements and power increases are not really increases at all, but means in which to maintain the pre regulation power they had. Look as the Suzuki gsx s1000 from 2016 to 2018 models. Same exact spec sheet, but substantially different dyno results. Same for mt10. Companies are being forced to improve their engineering in order to maintain performance, not necessarily enhance

Kinda don't see the big deal about this bike. Ok, so it has gained 10 horsepower and some torque. But with an EIGHTY FOUR CC displacement increase, wouldn't that be somewhat expected? So then what exactly is the fancy shift-cam system contributing to? However the biggest issue is: ok, it has gained 10hp, but is has also GAINED 5 KILOS (ELEVEN POUNDS)!!! Since weight has a way of negating small HP increases....why even bother?

So if you are pulling a wheelie will the Hill Assist Pro cut in and apply the rear brake? Of if you are using the rear brake to scrub off speed will the engine power be cut if you haven't fully closed the throttle? Seems like BMW have potentially created more problems than they think they have solved. Also the brakes should have remained as Brembos. The GS is a premium bike with premium price so premium brakes. Also it should have had 150bhp to at least to try to keep up with KTM.

Got a 2016 GSA - rode the new 1250GS and then the Multi 1260 back to back. Multi handles better, better gearbox, better quickshifter, more comfortable seat (for me). But found the new front brakes on the GS better than the "famed" M50 Brembos on the Multi, the GS brakes had more feel and as much braking power. The screen on the Multi is poor, but the new one on the GS is very good. Only tyres, but the stock tyres on the GS are a bit rubbish compared to the ones on the Multi. I think the GS might be a bit boring to ride. As for build and reliability - I would have no problem buying the Multi. (Have had issues with my GSA - rear suspension electric connector, poor switchgear sticking a bit).

And I'm sure the tft screen will come foc after they started giving it away free this year as £600 seemed a bit much to ask, when it was stock on other bikes. VVT on a BMW, should keep the AA busy and their workshops full doing recall work. Leading the way, or playing catch up? But I'm sure 1000's of sheep can't (won't) be wrong about it being the best.

this bike is trash. i bought mine in 2019 summer. bike engine broke after 12000km - loud clanking noise from left cylinder. bmw refused to repair by warranty claiming that loud clanking noise in left cylinder is normal. while trying to sort this out lost 2020 season. all attempts to complain to bmw headquarters went nowhere. in december 2020 dealer agreed to buy it back from me for 13500 euro. as a result i lost a lot of money and a season just because they refused to repair broken engine by warranty. please note i had bmw warranty and dealer extended 5 years warranty on it which i bought as well. so bmw you suck and your newer bikes are trash. btw this was my 4th bmw bike and 3rd new bought from this dealer. worst customer experience, worst service ever.

what I got out of this "review" was unnoticeable bump in displacement/power, cheaper brakes (that weren't addressed), an overly complicated valve timing system, no styling change whatsoever, and that opinions are bought for the price of a plane ticket. Just gonna stick to my KTM's. Thanks for the spectacular waste of my time.
