PROJECT UPDATE!
After buying and cleaning up the 1992 R80RT, it was time to move it inside and start the real work.
A lot of time went into searching of parts online.
Many of the parts will be shown in the video so you can easily find them yourself with a little bit of googling.
Tire choice is hard because of the 18 inch size of both front and rear wheel.
Lights and indicators will be of the more expensive kind this time, since the lighting on my previous project didn't perform as it should have.
Seat and subframe will be same like last time, since I was really happy with the looks. The only downside is the 4 to 6 week delay.
Exhaust pipes of the older style R80 will also arrive in the coming week and together with those Megaton mufflers, with db-killers, they will complete the oldschool look like last time.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Maybe I´ll spend some time with all those links when the build is complete, because maybe some things will still change.

Thomas you are awesome. I watched your videos in reverse order, from part 5 to 9 and just started watching Part 1 to 4 now. Love the in depth detail and the way you show each and every part. I have been afraid of buying the rear and front fender, cannot understand these sizes and so much to choose from. Would love to know what size fender to buy and also what size tyres you put in the end. In terms of tyre thickness for both front and rear, what is the maximum size one can go for without changing any thing on the bike? Many thanks

Great fan of your work! Your previous video's inspired me so much, last summer I decided to buy a BMW R80RT myself. I'm currently working on the project and hoping to get it ready before the end of the corona lockdown. Where did you get your rims powdercoated last time, I'm still looking for a good address and since I see you're from Belgium and I'm from Ghent region myself.

Danku!

Wow looks really good! Working on a similar project right know. One question, can you leave the big stand on when you place the new mufflers or do you have to remove them?
@ThomasC
@ThomasC 4 жыл бұрын
Probably not, on my previous R80 I simply left it off. If possible I'd like to keep it on this time, so either I find a way to make it work with the standard stand, or I let someone with good welding skills make me another one or adapt this one. All depends on the budget I have left after all other things are done :-)

Bonjour ! J'ai adoré votre R80 verte. Ayant une R100 que je vais décaréner et changer l'assise avec la boucle arrière, pouvez vous me dire où vous avez trouvé ce siège et cette boucle arrière ? Merci !

Hi. I take it you had to remove the centre stand as the old style pipes clash directly with it?
@ThomasC
@ThomasC 2 жыл бұрын
Correct. I found a handy motorcycle jackstand to put it on when parking it for longer periods of time.

@@ThomasC I am most likely going to copy you on that. I will try and get hold of an old r60, 80, 100 centre stand and see if that will work in between the pipes and still lift the bike. Cheers

@@tombellis8138 I think i tried that, or at least did some research, but the mounting points were too different to get it to match
