Another great video Dan! Even if you think they are common or regular servicing items, because people do it differently, there's always something new to learn or new discovery to be made. For instance, on this video that plastic rotating brush fitment to clean the aluminium part was a really good tip. In conjunction with giving a once over regarding the importance of SST (Special Service Tool) in certain tasks will educate young mechanics and DIYers - extremely vital and very basic but often overlooked. Many thanks once again for your excellent work and generosity in sharing the vital knowledge with us.

Where have you been? No diagnostic videos posted for many months. Great to see you back. I was surprised that you didn't spray penetrating oil on the threads before you loosened the bolts, and also that you tightened the wheel bolts clockwise, rather than doing the opposites, ie 5, 2, 4, 1, 3 on a 5 stud wheel. The torque wrench just showed the wheel bolts were tight, but the airgun might have over tightened them firstly. Electric cars aren't selling well in the UK, so it's good that you stopped making videos about repairing them. Great work, thanks.

When I was 13 years old began working at my dads tire shop. We were taught always tighten lug nuts using a star pattern. Did that method change? I love the video. I learned how to remove and replace these type bushing with a specialty tool I didn’t know existed. Thanks for all you do Dan!
@MrSteve6343
@MrSteve6343 5 жыл бұрын
Personally and I do not want to pick at the work yes I agree with the practice of as you put it a star pattern to tighten a wheel. It prevents the wheel snagging at an angle. I also think the snap on electric gun if you check in fact over tightens the wheel bolts even with only letting it dugga dugga a couple of times, they are far to powerful on bolts like that. The torque check at the end ought to have tightened the wheel bolts up more to the correct tightness. It only clicked due to it being at the correct tightness or beyond it already. From my experience it will nearly always be too tight. I would also recommend to the customer we did 4 wheel alignment although it was marked. If the customer declines then a premature worn tyre is not able to be blamed on us. Still enjoyed the content as always don't like to knock what you do just feel it is always good to get feedback whichever way it is.

Good video, but it's the second one I've watched where what I'm finding the most difficult part seems to be edited out. With my '99 E39, I can only say that the swing arm isn't so easy to get over the integral link and inside swing-arm/control-arm bolts in place. Yes, I say bolts because I was finding no way to get the angle right without dropping the arm entirely. I felt I was going to have to fight that inner/front nut with the holding flange on it. But that's not even my fight yet. It is just trying to get the arm to fit in place to the extent that I can pass the bolt all the way through. Things are just a bit cockeyed, and prying against aluminum too much has me cautious. I'm now wondering if I can change the angle enough to make it fit by turning that cam bolt a bit since that bolt is in place. I guess I'll try that next. That said, I think I'd go with the vise-grip hold technique next time and deal with the little bit of extra fight in replacing the ball-joint. Or maybe somehow over the years the swing-arm got bent? It sure isn't behaving in the same way as I see in multiple videos. Live and learn.

Eric O. went to the dark side and replaced all his diag vids with brake jobs to save filming and editing time. PLEASE don't do that!
@Diagnosedan
@Diagnosedan 5 жыл бұрын
I think Eric just films whatever job comes into his shop, he still makes decent diagnostic video's . Remember Eric is uploading alot of video's and they can't all be diagnostics.

@@Diagnosedan He claims everybody bitches at him for posting so many diag vids and they want him to do constant, endless, mind-numbing brake job vids instead. I'm not buying it. It must be working for him though.

Only one fault in this vid... Star pattern for tightening BMW 5 bolt wheels and ~216nm tightening torque. As a personal anecdote though, I'd clean the wheel and hub mating surfaces too, cause beemers like my E38 like to shimmy given half an excuse. Also finally subbed, your channel is absolutely invaluable.

Great video, thanks! Good you did it in real time... a good indicator of what I'll be experiencing in a day or two 😬 This may be somewhere in the comments already, but torque specs would be helpful also 🙂 thanks again 👍

Great Video ~ when you marked the alignment bolt , it looks like you only marked the washer and the subframe of the car.. Is that washer attached to the bolt ? I'm very nervous about removing that bolt.. would it be best to make a straight line from the bolt , over the washer , and on to the frame? What if I unbolt the swing arm from the other bolt rather than the alignment bolt?

While you did an excellent job…I must bring this to you and the viewers…. didn’t see you torque the bushing under the true weight of the vehicle or preloaded. When the vehicle rests on its weight the bushing will become contorted and will wear out prematurely. If I’m wrong then please forgive my observation.

Great video dan and nice to see it done properly! I've seen countless mechanics/technicians over the years tighten bolts with the suspension hanging down in the unloaded position . This is OK for the bush you've just replaced as it's more like a ball joint but not for the rubber type bushes which you know will fail again in a very short period! Once again a great video and nice to see it done correctly.👏

If somebody wants to save some bucks, get a long screw, a nut, and something like a 70-80mm deep socket. Get also different washers to make up the size you need. That's been always my bushing extractor. No professional mechanic here, just DIYing.

I was surprised to see you didn't use the ratcheting wrench on the removal part! I replaced all rear 8 bushings on my e90 and didn't have the 24mm ratcheting wrench at the time, so the removal and reinstallation took some time. I watched the entire video and didn't even need to, Lol. I think this came up as a result of watching one of your previous diagnostic videos. You explain what you are doing very well! Good stuff! New Subscriber. Thank you!

Great vid!! With your diagnostic skills, it's easy for some to think your just a braniac. When I was first watching your vids u said u wore out a few Milwaukee 12 volt ratchets. I said to myself, sure he did. But now I actually believe u. When we're not watching, I know u just rattle on those lug nuts with your impact. What tech doesn't know his impact? Really enjoy the repair vids too!! Cool rack!!

Amazing to see how clean even well used cars can be from underneath. If you saw how they look like here in Estonia! You have to use steel brush to clean all threads and use some kind of ptfe type of lube to moisten them before you can unscrew anything. Doing it by hand like you do... Is impossible and pneumo gun the only way if you want to have working limbs at the age of 50 😁 Good job as always! About that specific car (E60/E61) there are problems with battery + cable that goes from battery to engine bay and causes many vehicles to burn down. Maybe if you ever encounter this it would be a good video topic for owners of such models!
