Hey, is it possible to access the Interior Camera from the my BMW app from any time you want?

yes and no... So at this moment anything with interior camera will allow you to take a picture at any time as well as theft videos of 20 seconds... but no live streaming of the interior camera.

Sadly no… although in theory the interior camera should be able to… they might make that a thing in the future

But, at this point neither do other onboard recorders like tesla… you Do you get audio with aftermarket ones but it’s only interior not exterior recording

Nice! Is it recording from all cameras? 30 sec before trigger? That means it's recording constantly but if you want to triger it it saves 30 sec? But you still can watch whole video from beginning of the journey?

Yes it does total file size is about 500mB

No not the whole journey only +/- 30 sec from accident or when you press P for 2 sec

Ian is correct... it's constantly recording but only saving in 30 second loops until an incident/manual trigger happens. then it saves those first 30 seconds and records an additional 30 to give you 1 minute of video detailing the event leading up to and immediately following the incident.

Hello, were you using some sort of wheel/controller to scroll through the options on the screen initially? Like I had on my 3 series for the idrive 7. I now have a 2022 218d Active Tourer.

So, from what I understand of non-US models the two-series, active tour has a touchscreen only, much like the new X1

@@BMWofFW Thank you for your reply....Yes that is correct, I have no controller on my car. And it is only 5 months old. Which is a pity as I do not like finger prints on the screen. Plus I think it's a safety issue. On my previous car, the 3 series the idrive 7 was so much easier to navigate.

Hey JP. I love your videos. I ordered an 2023 iX. It's on a ship coming to me as of this writing. One thing about this video, BMW stopped including the interior camera for I believe the 2023 iX model year(xDrive50 and M60 too). That is the only item that's not on my iX. Even the kick sensor that was not expected, is included. As far as I'm concerned, I probably wouldn't be taking any self pics. It would have been great to have for theft, but hopefully, that won't ever happen. Keep up your great work.

yeah they've been changing some things around since this video... :( ... it IS still there but only on higher packages now.

It would not… it’s not a parking recorder or sentry style recorder, it only covers driving situations and (in certain models) theft attempts due to heavy door handle pulls, basic proximity isn’t covered as it sits now.

Hi, is this Drive Recorder app pre-downloaded with standard package? Or it only comes with the parking assistance package? I got a 2023 X7 and cannot find this app.

it comes with parking assistant as it requires the 360 cameras. if you have a top down view when you're in reverse then you have it. it's under ALL apps rather than info or vehicle with a red icon.

Do you know where the data is actually stored in the vehicle? SD Card? Internal Memory?

@@timothykeller1290 for profiles? It’s a combination of onboard saving on internal storage (it is mostly a Linux based system after all) and BMW servers

Yes… same as previous iterations, rotate single finger pointing towards the screen in a clockwise and counterclockwise motions.

So manual just means you can manually start recording rather than automatically in an accident. the USB drive is only for exporting a saved video, since BMW has built in storage it doesn't need external like Tesla does.

Are the anti theft recordings kept in the same place as the drive recordings? In the recording tab?

Depends on the car… Unfortunately, 2,3 and 4 Series and x3 and X4 don’t get the theft recorder, but every other vehicle does when parking assist pro is equipped

2022 will still be idrive 7 at this point... yes drive recorder available, no interior camera... the X5 move to ID8 was pushed off another year to coincide with the 5 series update.

JP my 2023 X6 has IDrive 7, it was recently totaled in a car accident so I’m considering waiting for a 2024 model which rumors state will have an IDrive 8 and these features you outlined as well as the augmented reality with the navigation as well as full key fob access via the iPhone any thoughts on that? The remodel for the X5X sex will have iDrive eight and as long as you have 3-D cameras and or parking assistant, you will have driver recorder

not quite even with iDrive 8's version... it does constantly record but it only makes available actual incidents rather than just constant recording with no happenings.

That makes Drive Recorder useless. I will still need a separate dashcam to record incidents. If I get in a situation that doesn't lead to an accident but close, I don't have time to do a manual record. A simple dashcam constantly records and you can easily save the clip after the event with a single button press or connect the flash memory to a PC and review the footage when you get home.

you can ad it through BMW Connected drive, just go to your myBMW app and the 4th tab on the bottom (looks like a car wth a shopping bag). You'll see connected drive upgrades right there!

Yes IF you have parking assistance with 360 cameras, you can add it through connected drive

sadly no. they will continue to add features to idrive 7, but the hardware is completely different for ID8.

unfortunately that's hardware based, so the short answer is no. Long answer is Maybe, IF they upgrade the 4 series for its LCI to have Service Pack 21.

Still seems really limited - can only record 8 min total. My 2018 Tesla Model S could record 10 min before / after each trigger event, and number of recordings just limited by available memory. Teslas send straight to the USB stick, so I purchased a 64GB stick and could literally have hours and hours of video. Internal memory allocated to this in ios8 is clearly really small - would be good to have a soft update that enables external memory use and massively increase the recording lengths.

But for accidents the most important thing is the accident immediately before and after, any run away after that point already puts their info on display, any longer is just a waste of space. And Tesla JUST offered interior video where we had it already, and instant reporting of potential theft in bmw app where Tesla you have to find out after the fact after you’re in the car.

@@BMWofFW I have an iX M60 2023 but also Tesla Y, 2023. We had a Model X for 3 years as well. The recording feature on the Idrive 8 needs improvement compared to Tesla. When using the horn, Tesla start recording right a way. On my BMW... looking for the button to start recording... you have to be careful due to so many icons in to click. And don't start me with BMW app vs Tesla app... Tesla app for the camera visual is realtime and BMW are pictures and takes forever to load. BMW is in catch up mode still but in the right direction,,, but Tesla is more advanced on the electronics and UX (user interface). That being said, BMW quality of assembly is way better and very tight but Tesla is making bing improvement. Just to be fair.

Sadly no, it requires a new harness known as service pack 21… LCI X3/4 still run SP18

yes and no... so it does record when parked now but it doesn't run in such a way that you can review it or view it remotely. Just records the incident that happens.
