THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO Just about to get mine done and almost went with a 4 pinned/keyed Crankhub. I will 100% be going with the VTT spline lock now. Very Very good information here.

Best solution I’ve heard of yet. I too have an issue with drilling holes in the crank; balance, weak spots, metal shavings, dowels breaking, etc… Wish these motors were as solid as the one in my 200k mile e-21 with the M10.
@jonathanblease2444 жыл бұрын
Great video, watched the Evolve version recently and didn’t like the idea of drilling stuff so looks like the VTT solution mitigates this
@MrDavidchuck3 жыл бұрын
The VTT is a great hub, but the assembling and disassembling process is rough given to the required torque needed in order to properly do so. It’s almost a two-man job because of it.
@MrDavidchuck3 жыл бұрын
Ok, so we’ll just look the other way from the truth that over time, and because of the spline idea, it tightens itself due to torque. Let alone factory spec still being a lot of work lol

... unless that’s what the CBC is there to also prevent. But ..what would I know, right?

never knew the n54 had 2 catastrophic failure points, does the bolt capture actually do anything i heard if the belt slips with the capture on it will unthread the crank hub bolt from the crank shaft entirely.

Have you all had any issues with the VTT hub so far? The spline seems like the best design but VTT has a very mixed reputation it seems.

Unlikely to be necessary. But we generally always advise a capture plate at minimum.

My only question is, what about the debris that will be created at the end of the crank when you press fit the spline lock in?? There must be some type of shavings created when you press that spline in no?? Or is this just something that perfectly indents the soft aluminum and doesn't create debris? Please let me know
@hackengineering55862 жыл бұрын
It forms the crank around it as much as cutting. And as you're pushing in, any minor shaving is pushed into the recess, not drilled out.
@stoss-112 жыл бұрын
@@hackengineering5586 So essentially, if there is debris created it’ll get pushed into the recess and i assume that’s okay to drive around with and won’t affect the car? What i’m getting from what you’re saying tho is when it’s pressed in it should perfectly indent the crankshaft and not create any debris? orrr are your saying No matter what debris will be created and pressed into the recess which is okay to drive with?
@hackengineering55862 жыл бұрын
@@stoss-11 Basically all three. Unlikely to be debris but if there is, it's kept sealed away from causing harm

I knew this was an issue on s55 engines but its the first I've heard about it on the n54. Should I be worried. I'm not massively tuned, just usual bolt on mods with DCT running sound 450hp/ 500lbs/ft. I notice on the links you provided above to someone it only days n55 and s55.
@3rdshift_33 жыл бұрын
I just had the crank hub slip causing it to skip a tooth. Still trying to assess the damage. Hoping the valves and top end are ok. I'm pushing 620whp with a safe tune, but 600+ Ft/lbs TQ at 4k might have done it.

Hello, serious question, this same exact situation happened to my 2014 X5 with the N55 engine. Are these two products compatible to be put on the F15? Also, have you heard this happening to any F15 N55 engines? I was cruising on the highway on sport mode at 80MPH and my RPM was at 3000 when I heard two loud bangs come from the engine. I saw a hole in the block... my engine is gone with only 74k miles on it! Also, the engine is stock with no tune. I got these codes, which happened in order within 3 seconds. Do you know what might of caused this?? -165014 Intermediate Shaft sensor, High pressure pump, Plausibility, signal edges, position Implausible, substitute value active. -165012 Same description as 165014 -165011 Intermedia Shaft Sensor, High pressure pump, signal, missing, substitute value active -164030 exhaust camshaft sensor, electrical, short circuit to battery positive -120408 Charging pressure control, deactivation, pressure build up blocked -164021 Intake camshaft sensor, electric, short circuit to ground -102A32 Hot film air mass meter, operating range, air mass to low I am looking at putting these two crank hub upgrades on my new engine! Thank you!
