I’ve put >150k miles on a 645Ci with N62 engine. It’s a sweet little V8, but it is so prone to leaks, the Exxon Valdez would blush.

If you have a BMW that isn't leaking, don't drive it, it probably hasn't goy any oil or coolant in it. I know, I have two of them, and I'm in the market for a third. lol

N62 engine is known for leaks, especially on the alternator bracket and vacuum pump, but if you deal with those issues, it's a pretty bombproof v8 engine.

I like the comment's probable from guys that have never owned a BMW with this motor no less even worked on one I have owned for 7 years and still have it and worked on one doing general maintenance on it and contrary to some comments it is very reliable , o boy am I going to get hat mail now

definately the n62, no space for the turbo's as in the later v8's in the head. I have a 650i n62, i thought that was a bad engine until the n63 which is even worse reliability wise. Overheating due to the compact nature of engine and turbo's, means the battery dies cooling the components after shut down, but that's too little too late, your valve stem seals are cooked and half the gaskets. BMW V8's a bad news, stay away.

Yup. Totally agree. These cars are good only while theyre new and their first 100k if well maintained, but you can also rebuild one but looking to spend at least like $5k just in parts

True, stick with their inline 6, NA. They have no major issues and will last forever

They spun the engine up with an electric motor. They never actually “started” it up & ran it on gasoline.

taki silniczek na tak cienkich łańcuszkach rozrządu. Co oni teraz robja silniki do kosiarek. Mam forda v8 a łańcuch to do mometu zerwania albo końca żywotności silnika tak powinno się robic a nie oszczędności na silniku . Gwarancja sie kończy i złom takie jest teraz założenie niemieckiego przemysłu samochodowego. A zanim dożyję końca gwarancji to jeszcze odwiedzi ze 100 razy serwis na naprway super samochodu ha ha ha. Powodzenia i przyjemnej jazdy ha ha.

W silniku na filmie jest podwójny, połączony łańcuch (2 w 1) z dodatkowo każdym ogniwem podwójnym - niezniszczalny.

This engine has frequent valve seal ring failure causing white smoke. It also has a water tube seal malfunction that needs full engine overhaul. Shame on you, BMW engineer

@J B From what I've seen, the cylinders become scored quite easily.

I disagree, the N62 is more reliable than the newer motors. I've seen examples with over 500,000 KM. Obviously the engine would've needed to have an overhaul at least twice to reach that stage.
