I have an X3 2008 LCI Atc 400. It has the 4x4 warning light and the brake warning light. No click sounds when the engine is started but when it rolls it seems that the 4x4 is active. The transfer fluid is ok, check the servo motor and it's fine. The car passed almost 1 year without turning on and after that, the 4x4 and brake lights came on.

Undo 4 cross-member bolts (leave attached to box ) drop gear box down couple of inches loads easier to get to bolts only takes couple of min . Don't bother removing motor from actuator as the gear comes out just as easy with motor on

Great video Emmanouil, thanks much! I have the trifecta of lights on. But I never hear a clicking noise coming from the Actuator motor when the engine is turned off. And I've listened many times. Could this still be a bad gear? Thanks!

Why does every other video and article on this on the net (there are dozens of them) call for an E10 Torx. And you call it an E11. You are the only one. Who is right and who is wrong? Thanks!

Hello while replacing gear i noticed that the shaft from the motor was quite wobbly is it supposed to be or should i replace it also?

I've got three lights that come on whilst driving the builb light then the yellow brake light then finally the 4x4 light they all beep when they come on, when I turn the car off it will not start again any ideas ease its a 2006 BMW X3 2.0 diesel

I disassembled my engine that controls the 4x4 box and made the gear change but the 4x4 light and abs remains on the dashboard nothing changed bmw x6m e71 2010 manufacture can help me to solve the problem

My car jerks when coming to a complete stop and around circle the caution light in the middle what does that mean but it only jerks when the light is on?

I replaced mine a while back, and the issue changed a bit and basically got worse. It used to bind on slow corners as if you were in 4 low. After the fix, it throbbed tremendously on acceleration and had a slight whine to it. Took it back apart and couldn't see any damage. I simply disconnected the wire harness bringing it to 2 wheel drive, and no problem since. I'm assuming something's messed up in the transfer case. Thoughts? '08 X3 with 170K+ mi.

I have the same issue (wheels jamming when turning as in 4Lo) I disconnected the module to make it 2WD But it still does the same. Now I’m going to disconnect at the motor location and will try disconnecting the front propeller shaft. It’ll suck if transfer case has mechanical damage. The actuator gear was replaced a year ago.

@Seelöwe yep. Center carrier bearing/bushing. Remove exhaust & heat shield. It's the rubber/aluminum piece in the center where the two parts of the drive shafts join. I also replaced the Flex plate (where drive shafts meets transmission). it was a cheap repair. I bought low grade Chinese stuff. The center bushing was broke and slapping/beating the bracket. After replacing it is almost all gone. I have a tiny throb periodically, I think may be miss aligned bracket, or the drive shafts got bent slightly from months of driving while messed up.

I have got only the 4x4 dash yellow light and DSC button does not work. I mean does not change any light on dash. I dont have clicking noise after turn off. I got those errors from BMW Scan 1.4. - VTG unit 53FC KL30Voltage Supply (red- Fault currently present). - ABS unit 5F1E Variant code:info: Trailer_Oscillation_Logic on EEPROM deactivated (red. Fault currently present) 5F3A Clutch gearbox-ECU. VG-clutch defekt- clutch is open-rear-wheel drive! (yellow Fault currently not present). The battery was replaced and this car was stopped for about 3 years... The old battery was died. Any help... Thanks.

how many kilometres? Check your actuator and the connection. check the transfer box oil for filings.

The X3 has just 27.000 km on the clock. It was stopped for a long time... The guys take the differential out to take fuel tank out of the car to clean it all inside...

2006 x3 E83 M54 sport package. ATC400.

Done. Fuse and cables checked. Fuse was so dirty after clean that up things goes ok. No more 4x4 light on dash. VTG module no more errors but ABS module still with error message 5F1E on scanner.

This is not great video he was being lazy and he could’ve end up stripping the bolts head all he had to do was related the transfer case brace. It was literally 4 screws. Instead of playing cat and mouse with the e10-e12 bolts

He said in the video is that you could take them out if you wanted for more clearance. Probably has nothing to do with being lazy it's efficiency, time is money
