BMW X3 Oil Filter Housing Gasket Replacement
This was done on a 2008 X3 but should be the same on other BMW's.
This video was made as a demonstration how to repair things and should not be done with out the proper training and safety equipment. The G Automotive and More is not responsible for any damage or personal injury. Please if you don't have the ability to do these demonstrations, don't try and get a professional to do it for you.

Brother out of all videos I watch I was looking for this particular video where you dont have to dissamble the whole car and get to the issue at hand I ppreciated all the other mechanics video but I too am a person that eliminates as many steps possible and make it easy for everyone Thank You Sir

Great instructive lesson that helped me perform the task. BTW, the three bolts attaching the filter housing to the block were T10 on my 2007 X3, not T8.

Thank you for this video, I just purchased a 2008 BMW X3 and the belt came loose due to these oil leaks. As I am not a mechanic I should probably invest in this repair. THANKS. My BMW only has 179,000klm, so I'm going to invest,

First thanks for your idea with this very helpful but, I was able to do it without having to take alternator out 1/4 in swivel and a 1/4 extension long enough to reach with 1/4 ratchet and a magnet stick to guide the bolt back in, I was able to get it out no with problem.

So i'm not draining my coolant before i do the replacement, I know i'll lose a little coolant from the hose, but when i put it back together --- am i in the clear to drive it 15-20 minutes to my auto shop to have oil and coolant change? Or do i have to fill it up with more coolant?

Hello, thank you for the great video. The 5/16 swivel you used on what looked like a torx bolt, did you use a 12 point socket and it worked on the torx bolt? Thanks!

Great video. Our is a 2006 with the 3.0 gas engine and it does not have the oil cooler on the front of the oil filter housing. Do I need to drain coolant before replacing the gasket from the oil filter housing to the engine block? I dont have a good way to lift the car and work under the car right now. Thanks.

I am not sure but I bet coolant still flows threw the housing so I would drain the coolant out of it. Thanks for watching

Hi what if you have oil in in the coolant reservoir? How would u flush the system? There was no coolant in the oil compartment. Do you suggest changing manifold gaskets, oil housing engine gasket ( i may not be saying it right) of course housing oil cooler gasket all hoses, change oil, belts clean alternator?

You should be able to find all the parts online or at your local foreign car auto parts store. But the dealer has oem parts that fit better.

I have the exact same problem with my 2009 x3. Did you drain the oil before you took anything off, or is that not necessary? Very helpful video!
@TheGAutomotiveAndMore
@TheGAutomotiveAndMore 5 жыл бұрын
I take out the oil filter and then that lets the oil drain back into the engine. You should drain a little coolant out of it so the anifreeze won't go into the oil passage when the housing comes off.

How does the coolant hose come off? Also, people say to be careful not to have oil or coolant mix. How do you avoid that?
@TheGAutomotiveAndMore
@TheGAutomotiveAndMore Жыл бұрын
The upper hose has a clip that you pull out on. I drain the coolant and then wipe everything out.

@TheGAutomotiveAndMore
@TheGAutomotiveAndMore 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheMartinSavard I only drain a little coolant out. Then refill. If it has a bleeder on the radiator definitely loose it and refill. If you remove all the coolant you need a scan tool to do a water pump bleed on it. Thanks for watching

I would take off the belt so coolant and oil does not get on it. This belt was all ready oil soaked so it did not matter. Thanks for watching
