I'm tired of putting money into my X5 - basically at this point I'm hoping I can make it go 2 months without something happening so I can get rid of it. That being said, thank you for posting this. Although it could use some more explanation - it had enough information to get the job done. Pointers for those of you who will be attempting this: 1) 3 screws on the kick panel 2) 2 screws on the duct 3) 4 on the actual blower fan assembly 4) Extremely tight space to work in I had the most trouble getting the old part out, like someone else mentioned, there is a small screw towards the left and on the right side of the upper dash panel. Helps to loosen it so you can yank the panel a bit to get the part in and out. As for aligning it back in - I might have been lucky got it in the first try 👌🏼

My E71 had a chirping noise when the air was on, I isolated it to this component. Video was really helpful thanks, had it out in minutes, gave it some WD40. It was a little trickier to get back in but only 5 mins of effort. Great video thanks.

Thanks a LOT for the video. I did the exact same thing for my X6 E71 and it was exactly the same as you have demonstrated it here. ONE SUGGESTION FOR EVERYONE :- Assembling it back can be a PAIN IN ____ . To make it easier what i did it is removed the dash screws and then pulled the dash towards me while putting back the blower in place otherwise the blower motor will not fit into that tight space.

Thanks Pinaki for this info! I got X6 E71 too and wanted to get this confirmation about the procedure.

I have a 2009 X5 35D. I just got my blower motor and resistor in. I did a quick search on the internet to see what kind of job I'm getting into. Saw your video and I said heck I'll just do it now. and I did it was that easy. My only trouble is getting that last little lip lined up but other than that it was a simple job. Thank you for posting.

Thanks for the video. It was much harder to get the new one in. I had to remove the glove box liner in order to get it to seat properly on the top. It works great now.

You are right about how difficult it is to align the blower back into position. I invented new curse words in German! The auto shop wanted to charge me $150 in labor plus the full price for the part of around $400. I got the Continental VDO aftermarket version for $149 including shipping and did the job myself in about 45 minutes, 30 of which was fighting to get the blower to align with the ducting again.

Thanks for sharing this one. It's definitely easier than some other cars. But just FYI to others, it's not easy by any means. Mostly because you're working on your back and have limited visibility and access. There's something that the edge of the fan housing that gets caught up on, and prevents a flush mount. At least that's what happened to me. I got it to fit perfectly once, but of course that was the one time I forgot to plug in the fan power. Still trying . . .

Hi Mediocreman, that is a fair statement. it is a lot easier than some (that need the whole dashboard removed) fans. Good luck with it.

You must have gotten pretty luck putting that son of a bitch fan back in. Took me an hour to line it up. I'd fire the sucker who designed that. Damn what a pain!

I replaced blower motor in 45 minutes. 2010 BMW X6M. The biggest challenge was getting the fan motor back inside the dash, which required an awkward stretch of the lower dash panel outwards and setting the two alignment dowels correctly. This entire job can be accomplished with a T20 Torx driver and Phillips driver.

Hi, could you share what was the issue brought up this replacement? I have 2012 x5 35xdrive and not getting hot air on driver side. It seems like the auto temp not working because 3stage auto temp seems all same. Even i turn to intensive, not getting leveled up for the spin level. I tried cold/hot its the same. I heard noise (like motor noise) passenger side for the past couple days and the noise went away but ever since i heard the noise the hvac did not work right. Please help!

hi Indian trail, the cooling system might still have air trapped in it. Some systems can be more difficult to get all the air out. See if you can find a video on bleeding the cooling system. Good luck

Hi there buddy. Great video. Please could you help me. I have a 2009 e70 x5 35d and my front blowers don't blow any air at all. The center console rear blower works though. Would this be a motor issue becase all front blowers are not working

Hello Ronny, If your 2010 X5 is also part of the E 70 model series, the blower should be similar.

At minute 4:05 you mention there are 4-5 torx screws ...... but you don't say what they are for. Do they have to be unscrewed to get the blower unit out from under the dash? Or do you remove those screws to get the housing off the motor once it is removed from under the dash ? I am trying to pull the blower unit out and it is not budging at all.

There is 3 tabs at different depths on the motor cover on the back that are impossible to lineup. Even if you get it on the 2 guide pegs, it still won't go in all the way. How exactly did you get it to align when putting it back in? Need a mechanic's help!! Saying that you need to get it on the guide pins doesn't help

It is pretty easy to Fix. don't go to the dealer! they quoted me around 700 bucks!! which is crazy all i needed was a regulator 125!!

I have 2012 X5 and I don't get heated air unless I set the temp at 84. Recently I had water pump and thermostat replaced. After the replacements, I am getting this heater issue. Any idea on why?

All vents on my e70 are blowing really low at any fan speed setting. Like one vent blows a little bit of air. I’m guessing this will fix it.

That symptom sounds like the resistor
@resellpanda88

thank you for the video. is there anyway you can tell it's just the resister and not the motor itself or would it be best to just replace the entire unit?
@leezbeeztv6686
@leezbeeztv6686 8 жыл бұрын
Hi, A bad bearing in the motor will make a lot of noise. A bad resistor will make the fan speed switch not work properly. For my X5 they both came as a unit (I bought it from the BMW dealer) so I'm not sure if you can buy them separately. If you can afford to buy both, I would replace them both. If not, just replace the broken part.

+leezbeeztv I took the panel off the car and tapped on the blower motor and turn the car on and the AC started working again. someone else had mentioned that the resistor may be on its way out. thanks for the help.
@pinakibhattacharyya8936
@pinakibhattacharyya8936 8 жыл бұрын
You can buy them differently. They come in different pieces as well. First diagnose the Issue as LeezBeeztv said if the issue is that you cannot control your fan speed then definitely Regulator is the issue. If the Motor is not running at all (which was my case and) then the issue can be wither your Motor or regulator but chances are your regulator is the culprit normally these motors run long!

+Pinaki Bhattacharyya thanks for the reply. it was my resistor which I purchased an OEM one; valeo from an online retailer for $60 shipped. hopefully it was the resistor and not the blower motor. so far two weeks during the hottest days of the year and it's held up. I also had an issue with my freon which my car dumped to protect itself from imploding.took it to my guy and had him check the vacuum and also pressure tested and it was fine. added the recommended amount of Freon 1.54± and I'm back on the road. hope someone else that is in the same situation reads this can find it useful.

1. If OEM costs 3x and it does not last forever, I would rather save the $ and try some aftermarket ones, especially if it is easy to remove reinstall. 2 It is hard to remove. I could not drop it down. The glove compartment is in the way. Damn you BMW.
