I wrapped tape on the contact point, took 2 seconds and never heard the sound again! Your video helped me so much, firstly how to recreate the sound by pressing above the lights and secondly where to wrap. So thanks for that. I’m sure that would be a few hundred bucks at the dealership!

This fixed it for me, thanks Eddie. I have been experiencing this constant noise for quite a few months and it has been incredibly frustrating to listen to. I had initially tried some electrical tape on the contact points which helped for a while and reduced the noise but the sound gradually returned. So I went ahead and bought a T45 bit and made the adjustments shown in the video and from a few test drives the sound seems to have completely gone. Which is amazing.

Edward! Thanks for all you do. I have put a trailer hitch on my '18 F85 and just did a front brake pad job. Could not have done it without you. What is interesting is my home dealer (Appleton, WI) texted me that my brakes would need replacing soon which is why I went ahead (and they were mushy). My front pads had about 70% meat left on the bone and the rotors are 1.30 inches (I think that is good). Just a reminder that the dealers are not our friends. Good to have you around so we can at least verify what they are telling us.

I’m glad you find my videos helpful! Depending on your dealer. They could be overly proactive in decision to replacing brakes/rotors out of warranty. It seems like during the free maintenance period, they’ll say everything is running fine!

Hi! Is the goal to make those plastic bumpers get to a tighter fit? Or a looser fit?

Thank you, after over 2 years of this rattling driving me crazy I fixed it thanks to you. I only wish BMWs did not have this cheap plastic inside.

Thank you for this video, it works on current gen models too. Just fixed my 2021 having this issue. The only difference is the plastic cover is much larger but pops right off.

Missed the part about the rubber stoppers…. Did you take them off to expose that?

Hi Ed...I think this happens when you bimmercode the tailgate softclose feature. One vlogger "Yaady" had this same problem if you watch her video. I think she watch your vlog and followed one of your video when you did bimmercode your tailgate softclose. And I think she put her tailgate back to original settings. FYI
@eddiemcars3 жыл бұрын
That could be a coincidence but I’m not sure. It looks like there’s two adjustments. My tailgate needed the rubber stops and the side pieces too. The default slam of the tailgate could help but idk. From my experience it seemed to be right after the automatic car wash prior to the soft close tailgate coding. Initial thoughts, it was the turbulence from the dryers causing it. It typically only lasted around a few minutes. Sometimes if I had my gym bag against the gate it would exaggerate the rattle. It was only recently when we had several days of rain when I noticed it didn’t go away after a few minutes of driving. I felt like something was wrong.

Try putting it back to default setting and see. And if you still wants the softclose later then maybe bimmerback ifnthats what you prefer. Maybe it will fix the problem instead of going to dealer. And thanks for all your videos. It helps a lot.

@@xfivemtiwtiw789 It didn’t make a difference for me, but my rattle existed before I did the soft close. Thanks for watching! Do you have any tips on sunroof rattle? This one isn’t going away with coding. Lol.
@xfivemtiwtiw7893 жыл бұрын
I dont have any tip Ed. But i see a lot of videos in youtube with same rattling problems in their sunroof which they just lubricate the rubber seal around it.

It will not solve the problem. Bad design. They all rattle and there is no fix. It may get a little quieter for a little while, but it always comes back.
