The BMW X7 is the most luxurious, most expensive and largest SUV ever produced by the firm. With its divisive styling, the X7 takes aim at a number of long-established rivals in the luxury SUV class, including the Range Rover, Audi Q7, Mercedes GLS and Volvo XC90. The X7 gets the trademark BMW styling, including the substantial kidney grilles that dominate the front of the car. But has it got enough luxury to live with its premium rivals? James Batchelor finds out.

Didn’t know BMW had started making cruise ships

I bought a 2000 V70 Classic (V70 I / 2.4 140 HP, manual, 160 000 miles / 257 000 kilometres), bought it two months ago, have already done 2000 miles / 3200 kilometres in it, I'm the second owner. It has full leather seats, heated seats front and back, trip computer, dual zone climate control, remote alarm, 4 x electric windows, electric mirrors, remote central locking, cruise control, fully stamped service book, last serviced in January 2019 with new timing belt, oil and filter, new clutch, new windscreen (UV protected), refurbished AC pump, new battery, built in childseat in the middle (armrest), tinted windows, integrated cargo net (x 2) for when the rear seats are up or down, XC70 roof rails, 8 x alloy wheels summer / winter, 2 x Hella Rallye 3003 (new) auxiliary lamps (high beams), lots and lots of new parts, all this and much more for £700. Would probably buy me one rim for the X7.

The funny part is, that this is BMWs' first attempt in this segment(7 seater luxury car) and this car really is the best in it's class. I would compare it to the Q7, because both are 7 seaters and both cost the same with more options on the Q7 and GLS is also a great competitor. To be honest, I think this is the best car in it's segment!!!

With all 7 seats up the LR Discovery is smaller. I should know, because I'm trading my Disco in for the X7. Besides, the only thing these 2 may have in common are the 7 seats. There is so much tech and quality in craftsmanship, no LR can even comes close when you take that into consideration.

I think we'll all get used to the massive grill in time. The only thing I don't like is the auto handbrake we've had an X1 and X5 roll down a hill recently when it was engaged, even scarier with a 2.4 tonne car

Regarding the interior looking like the 3-series's, that's case with most brands. For example, the interior of the top of the line Range Rover looks exactly like the new RR Evoque's.

Great review. Looks like a superb car. I know the looks are not to everyone’s taste, but when you are driving it, you aren’t looking at it! I think I’d buy one in preference to a RR. A lot cheaper and with the 7 seats.

Great review James BUT BAD camera work it's bad guys...you talking about the dashboard yet your camera guy is standing outside and we can't see the dashboard clearly, come on man..most carbuyer reviews are like that...which is bad camera work... This car wasn't made with the UK in mind so quit trying to compare it to the Land Rover Discovery. The X7 is for the US and Chinese markets and competes with the Escalade, Navigator, GLS, etc.

Max Troy If they are selling it in the UK market it can be compared to anything else here of a similar type/price. Theses videos are to help make purchase decisions not hypothesise what someone in China might want.
