After quietly absorbing verbal abuse from Gayton McKenzie during a torrid first morning at BNC#5, DA Federal Chair Helen Zille had her opportunity to respond during the Nightcap session. In this, Part 1 of that discussion with BizNews founder Alec Hogg, Zille exacts her revenge. Brilliantly. We witness a master of her craft at her very best, displaying trademark courage, superb storytelling skills and political nous. Zille also shared the back story of what is happening within SA's newfound political coalitions; and unpacked the DA's way ahead as the country approaches the watershed 2024 National Elections. Compelling, captivating and enlightening. A must-listen.
TIMESTAMPS.

10:35 On who is keeping the ANC in power
17:30 On Herman Mashaba's politics
20:57 On being the lightning rod
21:27 On SA's coalition politics and the best and worst-case scenarios for the 2024 National Elections
33:09 Why the DA's template of successful governance has not been picked up by the majority of South Africans
34:33 The major failing of liberals
35:53 The importance of good governance and examples of the DA getting it right
39:59 Cape Town as a tangible product of the DA's successful governance

So clear the difference between Dayton MacKenzie the politician who goes after what HE wants and slices up those who stand in his way and Helen Zille an authentic seasoned STATESWOMAN who so clearly understands what it takes to fight for South Africa and South Africans..... simply because that has been her stand from the beginning until now. It's time for the DA to wake up and realize that the fate of our country is hanging in the balance. Simply acknowledging that people vote with their emotions won't save us from the disastrous ANC! We need a party that is ready to fight tooth and nail for our future, one that is willing to get its hands dirty and play the game just as fiercely as their opponents. The time for complacency and half-hearted efforts is over. The stakes are too high, and our country's survival is on the line. The DA must launch an aggressive campaign that speaks directly to people's fears and hopes. They can't just say, "The DA gets things done" on their campaign posters and hope that will be enough. They need to be bold and unapologetic. Our campaign posters should read "ANC = starvation", "ANC = Zimbabwe", "ANC = death to your kids!" We need to show people that the ANC is not just a political party, it's a threat to our very existence. The DA is the only party with any muscle to help us get out of this mess and can't afford to sit on its moral high ground and hope for the best. Politics doesn't work that way. The DA must fight for our country and our future with every ounce of strength that they have. So, Helen, it's time to step up, use every tool at your disposal, and save our beloved nation from the ANC's grip of destruction!

The results are there..FACTS. You, nor FF, will stop ANC-EFF moves on your own. Coalition is the only route presently. I would hope you are able to recognise this point! Clarification on my previous comment . There is no doubt in any thinking persons mind that Helen Zille is the most professional , principled and competent politician in SA . She has done the hard yards for many , many years and has been consistent and stayed the course. The political landscape is unfortunately populated with people from the opposite end of the continuum and the bulk of the voters are the product of a poor dysfunctional education system who can be easily swayed by promises of more 'free' and short term benefits . The point I was trying to make is that perhaps her approach "at this stage of politics" may be a square peg in a round hole. I think many politicians world wide see coalition partners as something that is expedient- even if not correct .

Your comment shows what you think about the mentality of impoverished blacks in the country. Have you lived through the dark days of apartheid-like the masses in MZANZI had parents that experienced being removed from their houses and given a Bantu education. According to your logic, blacks must vote for a party led by a white woman who recently told everyone that colonialism was a good thing. There are non-whites in this country who would rather wait for the ANC to internally renew itself than vote for the DA. This is something you need to understand and accept. Its called emotional ties.

A compelling interview. The DA has a lot experience in governing and seem to have some structure in place despite it not always working. The biggest issue is that the DA has an image problem. They have facts to show that they govern effectively but yet their voter percentage has stagnated. The DA needs to rethink its approach...for a South African electorate.

Bottom line, Helen is a heavy weight to PA and Action SA's bantam weight. They are no match for her and they know it. She has bigger balls than both of them, and that is ultimate crux of the issue. No minor party has time now to play childish games, there is too much at stake. They need to put on their big boy undies and do what needs to be done. Go Helen!

A good interview like is normally the case with Helen Zille, but I have the following comments: 1. She was never asked if she would step down for the greater good if that was required to save SA from the ANC. Something that was hammered on to the other delegates. 2. "Don't vote for small parties" is the old DA saying. Remember the DA was also a small party and the only way they became the 2nd biggest party was by more people voting for them. The same applies to all other "small parties". The only way they can grow is to get more people voting for them. 3. We now heard your view on the coalition failure, blaming Action SA and the PA, but Action SA, the PA and FF+ blames the DA and Helen by name? All has what sounds like legitimate reasons. What is the real truth? 4. The DA run Cape Town well, which is probably the easiest to run under all the metros. When do we see the DA take over all the seats in the Western Cape in the smaller councils? Do the people there not see the blueprint or is the DA just focussed on Cape Town. 5. I get really frustrated when the DA talks about corruption with tenders etc in councils where they do not govern. If you know of all this corruption, why are there not any charges and court cases? We heard that story a 100 times in Tshwane, yet there is not a single piece of evidence and a single conviction yet. All we have seen is that the DA has now had 6 mayors in as many years in the DA lead coalition, which have all left under a cloud of controversy with a golden handshake. We saw the same with Patricia De Lille. The DA leaders said to her that if she resigns, she will not be charged with fraud. How is that even allowed to be an option? If she was guilty, why not charge them? Maybe we need someone to ask the difficult questions to Helen ZIlle and not the nice ones... I would love to see Helen Zille as minister of local government one day, as I think she will be able to do a great job, but will she ever get there and be happy with that? Don't think so.
