If you are learning what Jazz is, starting with Louis Armstrong is the best way to know. If you are ending your study of Jazz and celebrating the sweet knowledge of having escalated to a very high standard of music, then ending with Louis Armstrong is best.

No Pops, no Benny, no Miles, no Dizzy, no modern music as we know it today. I'm not exaggerating. He wasn't called Pops by musicians for nothing! If you study jazz you are studying an art form that was completely shaped by the great Satchmo. He was the single most influential musician of the 20th century. He was the first super star of the music world. He even gave us our modern vernacular. Don't believe me. Look into it.

Haha, so true. Especially after hearing Cory Henry's complex improvisations. Man, this just makes me appreciate the roots which grew into the ever-growing diverse jazz branches. Bebop is cool and all but just are these classics with punchy melodies.

Thanks for posting this! Today is my dad's 102nd birthday and it was a great joy to be at the cemetery and playing this in his honor,. The most joyful memory of my dad is, as a child waking up to Louis Armstrong on a Sunday morning , since it meant that he was in a good mood, and that was how he enjoyed it.

As someone with epilepsy and has just had a major grand mal seizure the other day I can say, that when your in your first day or 2 of recovery the most you can really do without hurting your head just by moving it is to listen to music or podcasts. The podcast I typically listen to is having a Christmas break right now so I was kinda stuck to just listening to music. I almost exclusively listen to rap and rock and I just so happened to be listening at the time to an artist named Chris Webby and his song Pearly Gates and absolutely loved the actual real instruments that he used behind the vocals. I was reading the comments of the video and people were saying that what he used in the background was actually Louis Armstrong’s St James Infirmary, I decided to look up the original song and from there absolutely fell in love with his music. Ive been sitting here listening to this for well over an hour now. So I guess what I’m really trying to say is Thankyou for making amazing music that helps me get through dark periods in my life

I bought this very album as a cut-out in the summer of '64!! Not yet 15 yrs old at the time. Undoubtedly best acquisition ever. Here are the missing credentials: Louis Armstrong - trumpet, Peanuts Hucko - clarinet, Trummy Young - trombone, ... Billy Kyle - piano, Mort Herbert - bass, Danny Barcelona - drums.

My parents adored all of this old jazz..All the favorite's like Keely Smith, Sinatra and the other 'rat pack' Ella Fitzgerald and Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, and the 'crowd,' back in the day.. Wonderful memories of childhood fun with singing and dancing around the lounge to a pile of LP gramophone records scattered on the lounge floor. GREAT STUFF THANKS xx 2.2021.

A very fantastic and melodious voice - pleasing to the ears. The songs that are released these days makes you weep at how talents have diminished.

My friend ad an uncle who was in Louis Armstrong's band. He either played trumpet or saxophone. I can't remember. But he played with Louis and said after the shows, people in the audience would buy him all the drinks he wanted. Ahhh, the life of a Jazz musician...

For me, the greatest musician with a wondeful sense of the melody and rhythm.

We have a few fathers and mothers of this country. Just a few. The centerpiece is Louis Armstrong. The very heart and soul of our nation can be heard and felt in the sound of his voice and horn.
