Great video! I would generally agree with what you said, most of people are not willing to print games, or the will print a preview and buy official version at the end (if they like a game). But do not forget that there is bunch of people which prints games as part of hobby. I would add to the topic: - if you sell PNP file (as a part of your campaign or later), always state how it will look. Has it full final art? Are there cutting marks and bleed? A4 or US letter (if you do not provide both or universal file)? - software: there is also very powerful open source combo for creating PNP files. When you use Inkscape and countersheet extension you will end up with very powerful and mature combo dedicated to game creation. You will automate PNP creation and it will create cutting marks for you automatically. Fill free to contact me via bgg, github,... if you need help. If you would like to know more theory about creating PNP for your game I have series of how-to's at github.com/ernierasta/pnp-howto/

Don't know if I'll get any response to this because the vid is over a year old. Addressing the print and play graphics - people not buying the retail game because they have the full graphics etc. How about putting full graphics into the print and play files but watermarking them with "Print And Play Sample" or something across each card/resource? That way players can see the graphics, play the game but still have an incentive to buy the real boxed game?

Can anyone explain what exactly they're talking about? What is a "print & play"?

Very late reply but... It's a version of a boardgame put online as a pdf for you to literally print and play. Some professionals do it to wet people's appetite for the published game. Some designers use it to self publish.

I need some advice. How much info about a game do you give out on social media while developing it? i am done balancing a card game and want to start a buzz about it through twitter and my facebook page but i am not sure how much info i should be giving out yet. im not doing the kickstarter campaign till November. i guess i get afraid of people taking my idea before i can launch it.

You don't have to be afraid in this industry. is very unlikely that someone will get into trouble to steal your idea. it is time consuming and can ruin ones reptutation. there are plenty of game designs out there. You can start revealing things to make some buzz. People want to see some artwork of the game to drive them in and then some reviews, or rulebooks etc. to see how the game plays. If you don't want to reveal too many details at least show the main flow and mechanics of the game.

great informative video with good advice but please sort the sound out. music and laughter is earbreaking while everything else is too quiet.

Why can't you make a print and play with that include a few of your components in a 3D printer file? Just enough for a two or three player version. Ramp the price up to include the intellectual property. It seams that when those copies hit social media the components are there for everyone to see. It would create more of a buzz.

That's a great idea to offer both 2D and 3D components in a print-and-play. Most people don't have 3D printers yet but if they do print them out, yeah, they'll create a lot of buzz. Plus, making 3D STLs in a print-and-play might draw 3D-include folks to play your game.

I can't speak for everywhere but here we have 3D printers in the library. Just a thought.

I'm a Game Designer looking for Publisher. I'm working on a Wargame, will you like to have a look at it? I can't travel to USA because I'm from a poor family from India, but I can send you a digital Print n Play copy.
