Why don't you go after the terrorist and leave American citizens alone!
@OhNoYouDidnt7 жыл бұрын
Well this makes sense actually, the amount of money it costs to use helicopters etc in the event of an emergency at sea and the cost of having to FIND people who don't have the proper equipment to be seen in the vastness of the sea is insane. Having a proper functioning fire extinguisher for example can mean the difference between a distress call, the vessel sinking and people having to be plucked from the water and the cost of it all vs simply putting out the fire before it sinks the whole boat. It's understandable if rules for being at sea are very strict, when something goes wrong you cannot simply just get out and step on the pavement or call 911/emergency number and have a response within 5 minutes. Unfortunately human nature seems to be cutting corners, then when something happens just call someone to pick up the pieces.
@martylynchian86287 жыл бұрын
Yeah a Helicopter in 1 in a million vs an entire crew and a fleet of ships wandering the water without a purpose aimlessly violating people constitution rights. Maybe we should have a fleet of armed doctors wondering the street doing random health check to avoid the cost of a ambulance or medical helicopter. LOL

I do know however, the Coasty's will not tear your boat apart unless they have 'reasonable suspicion'. In other words, if everything is in order and they have no documentable suspicion, they can't (shouldn't be able to) tear your boat apart.

I have lived in south Florida for the majority of my life and have spent many many hours on Florida and Bahamian waters. I have been onboard on 5 seperate occasions on 2 boats that have been boarded by the Coast Guard. It has been my experience that the members of the Coast Guard are like any other policing organization. There are the polite ones, the gruff ones, the thorough ones and the brief observation ones. Only one time was any damage done to the boat during the inspection and that was because they ripped the headliner in the main salon. The citations have been minor including out of date flares and bringing in forbidden fresh fruit or vegatables. Quite frankly, although it seems inconvenient at the time, I find some comfort in knowing that they are out there, ready to protect us from evil and even from ourselves should the need arise.

Yep, one of the best parts of the Caribbean is how blue and clear the water is. I am in Central Florida, so when we go to the beach its from Daytona down to Cocoa where the water is brackish. Always blows me away when we go to S Fla or the Carib and see how clear it can be.

In Britain, A 'radler' is called a 'shandy' which should not be confused with a 'hand shandy' when ordering, which is something very different, and may end up in your face being slapped. Often men drinking shandy's are ridiculed, although in the summer heat, (a rare think in the Uk) I can't think of anything better. A common insult to a man would be "a soft shandy drinking bastard" although I cannot condone those sorts of insults. This concludes my educational post about British life and culture. I hope it comes in useful when you cross the Atlantic.

Was re-watching "Life on an Anchored Sailboat" and I was wondering if you guys have a chess or Backgammon board on-board. Over the years, I have found that some of the most fun my wife and I had on bad weather days was to break out the Deck of Cards, Scrabble or the Chess or Backgammon boards. Keeps the mind going when you get tired of reading. Lastly. For those relaxing nights (pre-sunset) have you ever flown a Para foil kite? They are very inexpensive come in a variety of sizes and if they crash into the water are easily retrievable. Not that I think you guys are not having any fun....quite the opposite but when you seem taxed, a good drink plus one of these options is very inexpensive fun and the kite is a great exploratory conversation piece. Lastly, ever take the cockpit cushions up on the bow and lay and watch the stars wrapped up in a blanket......life does not get better. Wishing you guys safe travels and smooth sailing in all the days to follow...........

Keep in mine for future ref. an excellant hide-away from bad WX that is around the south tip of S. Cat Cay and in the strip of blue water on the west side-- never more than 1 i/2 waves any time and is a favorite spot for boats to take their scuba people to play. But not any good for fishing or bottom stuff as it is dead and fished out as is most places that area. We spent 6 days there with rain and 25 -30 mph winds on one anchor and no problem but you can't even get to any other people areas in a dinghy because of surrounding shallow water.
@WickedSalty8 жыл бұрын
Good knowledge all around. I liked hearing the tip about the lack of fishing around there. I could imagine its scarce, first jump over from the states, lots of sport fishing right around there. Probably best just to move on quick after a one or two day sight see like you said.

Super nice video, good for you guys. Got a kick out of your comments regarding the clarity of the water at 70+ feet. Its awesome but can be a little disconcerting the first time you see it because judging distance to the wildlife, the bottom and so forth takes a certain skill but the time you spent in Florida I'm sure helped to break you in. This is the reason your depth finder really needs to be in tip top shape. Charts are nice but are not always all that accurate. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your trip. Amendment IV; The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized
@WickedSalty9 жыл бұрын
Mike William It's very different at sea. At sea the Coast Guard is supreme law and you have zero rights as such. Its the law of the ocean, that amendment doesnt apply to the coasties, the more you resist the more hassle you'll get.
@mikewilliam53159 жыл бұрын
Wicked Salty You are SOOO wrong!! There is NO "SUPREME LAW", this is NOT Iran or China. They are USA government employees, covered by the laws of the USA and the constitution, which the coasties, swore to defend. The only reason they get away with this, is because people like you, bend over and let them in. I have refused the Coast Guard boarding MANY times, I read the IV amendment to them over the radio, then ask for the commanders name, so that I can sue him/her personally, for violating my civil rights. They back down EVERY TIME!! Freedom is not Free, you have to fight for it.
@WickedSalty9 жыл бұрын
Mike William We've got nothing to hide and we're happy that they're there to help. navwaters.com/2012/11/12/the-fourth-amendment-rights-vs-boarding-power-of-the-united-states-coast-guard/ “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” Amendment IV, U.S. Constitution, ratified 12/15/1791. The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is the part of the Bill of Rights which guards against unreasonable searches and seizures, along with requiring any warrant to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause. It was written in direct response to British general warrants which empowered British law enforcement to search virtually any home, at any time, for any reason, or for no reason at all. The Coast Guard’s primary law enforcement authority is derived from 14 USC 89 (made law in1949) which states in part, “The Coast Guard may make inquiries, examinations, inspections, searches, seizures, and arrests upon the high seas and waters over which the United States has jurisdiction, for the prevention, detection, and suppression of violations of the laws of the United States for such purposes, commissioned, warrant and petty officers may at any time go on board of any vessel subject to the jurisdiction, or to the operations of any law, of the United States, address inquiries to those on board, examine the ship’s documents and papers, and examine, inspect, and search the vessel and use all necessary force to compel compliance . . .” While the Fourth Amendment may protect the citizen, law abiding or not, from the threat of an “unwarranted” search, that protection ceases once the citizen is on a vessel. The Coast Guard has sweeping authority to board any vessel (subject to the jurisdiction of the United States) at any time, any place. It does not require a warrant. It does not require probable cause. Boardings need not be based on a suspicion that a violation already exists aboard the vessel. Their purpose is to prevent violations and the courts have upheld this authority. Also, the Coast Guard has full legal law enforcement power on any land under the control of the United States, as needed to complete any mission. 14 USC 89 has its roots in the Revenue Service Act of 1790 which provided “all collectors, naval officers, surveyors, inspectors and the officers of the revenue cutters . . . www.sailfeed.com/2012/10/coast-guard-boardings-and-your-fourth-amendment-rights-part-1/ Do you actually own a boat?
@mikewilliam53159 жыл бұрын
Then follow the law. Get a warrant to enter, search, seize or hold people from freedom of travel. Your link, is NOT the supreme court decision. You can "HELP" people by upholding the law and not stepping on their freedom by scaring them, that if they don't "comply" it will get worse for them,
