I could not understand how to play this game until I saw this video. Thanks for the great explanation.

Thanks for finally playing my favorite game. :) I have happily watched it a few times. I sincerely hope there's a followup with the Rising Sun standalone expansion. BTW, we move the points as we place stations because those are open points that everybody is seeing.

Good show guys, and it is a game I have played a few times. It was fun to watch asa usual. Merry Christmas to you all.

Interesting to see a few different strategies. Also, I really noticed how well you did editing the video with the 3 camera shots between conversation and pointing out things on the board. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention before, or maybe this just had a lot more pointing and discussing, but great job on the editing!

Looks like an interesting combination of Deck Building and Area Control. I've been interested in checking this one out for a while. Thanks for doing a play through....and a waste.

I think the stations are really important on Trains as you can make 8 points on cisties with 3 stations, I guess the video proves that in the end with the player that has most stations point won.

I believe the end game condition is 4 piles EXCLUDING waste depleting not including waste ... which would not make sense anyway since waste pile can rebuild

Somebody mentions towards the end going "big money" and ignoring the board completely. If you do this, and buy the victory cards, you will win every game (except against other players playing the same strategy). The problem we found with this game is it is functionally Dominion with an added board, and the point-scoring from the board is punishing (because of the scrap cards) and much less efficient than buying victory cards. Dominion is a much better game for the same amount of money, except you can find trains super cheap online so it's functionally cheaper even though they have the same msrp. On the last game we played, we tripled the scoring from the board, and I still won buying victory cards. If you compare the cards in this game with those from Dominion, you'll see that Trains is a very direct copy of Dominion.

Very interesting. If you're right the game's TOTALLY BROKEN then. Don't you still get waste when you collect a victory card, though? Is the board totally irrelevant?

This game is basically a board building Tanto Cuore. Still looks fun.

Don't mean to call out minor rules, but looks like you guys missed that the mail train itself gives you a coin in addition to the coin fro the cards you discard. Makes that card even better.

just noticed that the board calls the game Trains Osaka so are there other boards then?

my only issue with this game, although I highly respect it, is that I would just rather play Ticket to Ride.

So, it's Dominion mixed with Steam.

I think Nikki's biggest issue with this game was hand management. Her argument against the mail train seemed a bit iffy to me, because hand management is incredibly important in this sort of game. It takes the luck factor and reduces it. Lincoln had the right idea, for sure, to go for a well established board position and a hand of useful cards.

if she had bought more mail cars she wouldn't have been as annoyed by the waste
