After doing this for my boat, I have come to conclusion that you make this look so much easier than it really is! Geeze! 😲

Great job. A friendly note... If you are going to use chop strand try tearing it instead. The strands that fray off will create a stronger more seamless bond. Love watching your work. I'm learning as well!

I know I’m 2 years late on this. Did you use marine plywood. Getting to ready to tackle a similar project but it only needs to be short term so I’m curious if regular plywood will work?
@ZachsGarage1 Жыл бұрын
I did not use marine grade! Doesn't hurt, but if your fiberglass is water tight then you have nothing to worry about

Hi Zach…do you fiberglass the bottom part of the wood? (Both sides?)

Im curious as to what kind of flour you used. I ran out of silica and bought a bag of wheat flour... Its working but is very gritty or grainy, my peanut butter seems more like grits.😂😂 i wonder if white flour dissolves better...
@ZachsGarage14 жыл бұрын
lol. Just general purpose flour :) it does get gritty indeed! You wanna use just enough to get it thick enough to hold shape

Looks good! So, im curious to know what kind of foam you used (2lb,4lb...) and how much it took to complete the job. Cant wait for the next video!!
@ZachsGarage14 жыл бұрын
2lb foam, posted a link in the description. I used 2 gallons all together(including stringers). I probably could have used 3 gallons though. I used just enough for the foam to rise got the top of the hole. Not more, I was trying to avoid extra waste 😛
@kennethsylvester48843 жыл бұрын
Can you give a name of the pourable foam filler, where did you get it from?

why did you use chopped matting not 1708 ???
@ZachsGarage12 жыл бұрын
My primary reason for fiber-glassing the top of the wood deck was to waterproof it. For that chop-strand-mat(CSM) is sufficient. CSM is cheaper than 1708. 1708 will get the job done just as well. The extra structural strength 1708 provides was not necessarily for my deck, in my opinion

Was that marine grade plywood and what size plywood was it?
@ZachsGarage13 жыл бұрын
Just regular BC ply. 7/16" or 1/2" if I remember correctly

@@ZachsGarage1 how long did it take for the fiberglass resin to dry?

How many layers did you put on? CSM then 1708?
@ZachsGarage13 жыл бұрын
only 1 layer of CSM on top, beforehand I thought i'd do more, but ~3 gallons of resin later I decided 1 layer was enough :P lol I will say after almost a year of use, been from 30 degrees to 100 degrees F multiple times, absolutely no cracking in my deck, it has been holding up very well! But as you find out in later videos, I put a LOT of gel coat on top of the deck

Doesn’t the foam just absorb water and hold it and make it even worse be better to just let it drain
@ZachsGarage13 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it takes a long time for the water to soak in. So in the event of nose diving or flipping, the foam might just make enough difference to keep your boat from completely sinking
