Small military base shared by the Azores and the US. Great refueling spot famous for its cross winds. My wife spend 15 months there and I was able to visit her while she was there. Very hilly and the inside of the blue and white church is amazing. Lost my wife in Aug of this year and I have been catching up on your videos in the evening. It has been good catching up to what you have been up to and it has also been a great way to let my mind take a break from missing her. Much love to both of you and thanks for dragging the rest of us along on your adventures!

Pilot whales seems to be a popular go to for any large dark blunt faced dolphin.......from what little we see of these they definitely do not exhibit the broad dorsal fin particular to either species of pilot whale. They could be a number of species most likely candidate considering your brief description and footage would be False Killer Whales = dark grey-black, 4-6m in length, fine sickle shaped dorsal fin, narrow tapering head (no rostrum). Great encounter, they can be quite social, I have been luck enough to have them bow ride a couple of times.

Terciera, Terciera.... You guys are like a couple of goofy college kids who'd spent their summer in Spain and then repeat BarTHAlona so many times their housemates have to tie gags on them (or soon they'll be saying "I'm thirsty, I sure would like some Than-Grrrri-ha!). I do appreciate knowing where you are, too often cruisers don't get around to mentioning where the heck they are. (Us sea kayakers are however, the absolute worse. We'll write whole articles about paddling out to "Black Rock" or .... White Rock" or Little Bay, without ever mentioning what continent or ocean we're on.) Now, I'll never forget Terciera. It is even more hilarious Adam has so much trouble pronouncing it when he's been sailing with Khiara - how long did it take for him to get that right?

I chose to do my first solo sail in drizzle and muck in my 25 footer so I totally understand the psychology you're expressing about "just getting out there". And I too would have been racing to the stern to lift the windvane rudder out of the water in case those were orcas.

I thought, I had seen both of you in Ponta Delgada on the 21st, but from the video, the weather on Faial, I had very good weather this week and the local told me the day previous of my arrival there was a lot of rain, so I am guessing it's that one in the video. I am in Angra today, leaving tomorrow back to mainland Portugal, visit it on the other side of the Atlantic.

Porpoise - bottle nose, snuffer or grampus in English, in today's formal Dutch is called "bruinvis" (we know it's not a "fish"), but its popular name would have been "varkenvis" - "pig fish" - because of the taste of its meat. So if you bump into a Dutch person with the family name "Varkenvisser" (pig fisher) then you now know they weren't actually fishing for pigs.

Good afternoon Khiara and Adam, quick question on underwater maintenance. How often do you have to clean the hull of barnacles and other marine growth and how often do you have to replace the zinc's please? When I worked on the waterfront it was usually 12 months, is it the same with you?

Do you know what does it means "TERCEIRA" ? It is the third. The third island for example. I have ancestors who came from this island to Brazil, from my mother's side, about the year 1700.
