Boat Life | LIVING & WORKING from my BOAT | Canal Festival Gathering [Ep 129]

This week we battle the elements and I cruise my narrowboat in strong winds to make it to Huddlesford Heritgage gathering where I trade as The Pirate Boat. I love a canal festival as there are so many boat traders, land stalls, boat trips, historic boats and live music.
I'm asked many times how I fund my off grid lifestyle and trading from my Narrowboat as a Roving Canal Traders at Canal events is just one of the ways.

After selling my house to experience an alternative lifestyle I bought a canal boat and a camper van which as a solo female who loves to travel, gives me the best of both worlds. I have recently got myself a new addition to the crew, a fabulous companion - my little rescue dog Bonny who is an absolute joy. I also work full time off grid from my tiny home and trade at canal festivals as The Pirate Boat.

Love that Leaky Lock poem. Speaks to me of life. And yes, as a former boater and now a caravaner, I love having tanks full/empty whatever, and batteries charged, etc. Makes life so nice. People who own homes that have water and electricity and sewer 24x7, maybe they can't understand the "joy" of this sort of thing. 🙂 Trying to find water, fuel, coal, etc, much less a place to park your boat for the night. Much less the concerns of weather and wind. Oh, nice rainbow! and sunset. and clouds reflected in the water. Jaks! twice! What a busy, fun, festival. I had no idea. This is so cool. Gorgeous boats, 1933 Swift. My last boat was 1939. AAAARGH!

Next week in Aust is the " race that stops a nation" the Melbourne Cup where every one frocks up ( and whatever is the male equivalent). A hat or fasinator must be worn - your pirate hat would definitely be a fashion statement❤😊 ( google melbourne cup millinery). Me thinks you could get away with the pirate theme for the day - ditch the high heels! Great conclusion to the ditty. For those of us on the sailing side of boating, we like to call it "the most expensive way to get somewhere very slowly for free". Hurrying is just not on. I just went out (also singlehanding) the other day in a bit more wind than I was expecting and ... came right back in after 20 minutes. Nothing wrong with knowing your limits! R!

I spotted the cameo appearance by ex boater David there. Yes, the old engines are interesting, you've got a very nice one too, I'm surprised at how reliable it is considering it's age, it was certainly built to last. I think out of all the old ones I like the Russell Newbury DM2 most, those things sound so cool, if I was having a boat built I'd like to pop one of those in it. Interestingly they were built not far from where I lived in my UK days. Thank you again for a lovely video, I always look forward to them.

The sign on the bridge still proclaims it as "Ball's Bridge", in recognition of the fact that the original bridge on that location was built and owned by the Ball family, a well-known Dublin merchant family in the 1500s and the 1600s. The current bridge was built in 1791.

Moored at the same point as you, 10:40 for good solar and the great views, on my way off the Coventry. I have also worked on the embankment to replace track side assets on the west coast mainline, opposite the festival/boat club. … glad you covered the Lichfield Canal Restoration, I work on the rail and have a lot of experience with that whole section, 18 miles to be precise. Incidentally, I tried to join your channel as a patron but for some reason my payment would not process. Anyway, Great video Heidi, crazy that I had to miss the festival.
