Hi Joe, I give this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ on the boat work video list. I’m sure there is a lot more to it so I’m staying tuned in to hear more. This project is big enough to warrant help from outside experts and once completed can be scaled up or down for future projects.

Very sound advice, in the words of Dirty Harry, “A man’s gotta understand his limitations”

In the movie “Cool Hand Luke” two great lines: ‘a man’s gotta know his limitations’ and ‘ what we have here is a failure to communicate!’.

Although I understand your desire to keep with one charging and regulating system, you may want to consider a split system using the older technology exclusively for the engine system and the lithium for all your other electrical needs. By the way, you can install more than one alternator on that engine. Happy New Year to you and your family 🎉.

Very true Barry, I’m thinking this may well be the ultimate solution. 🤓But the series 6 is a single foot mount and both alternators would need dual mounts on the Beta 43 engine 😕

@motorcityboatwerks There may be a solution. 😎

Okay, there is one nuance you may be off base here. Please talk to your consultant about this. 12v is fine and all that, BUT if you spec 24v or 48v, you’ll save a great deal of money in wiring and components, then finally convert to 12v for the appliances running electrical. It would be interesting if you did a follow-up on this explaining the cost savings. I think 48v might be close to half your total project cost.

Thanks for the comment. On the surface this might seem plausible, there are advantages to 24v or 28v. But the availability and selection makes this is not the case. 🙁

Joe- you're reading too much into the abyc standard. I'm actually studying to get my ABYC electrical cert. You are fine with having the fuel fill and vent running along side the batteries. Just can't have batteries laying directly on top- or below- a fuel tank without a deck partition. So no need to re-route your fuel fill and vent
@motorcityboatwerks18 күн бұрын
Thanks Danny. But the specific rule is quite clear. Fuel fill and vent constitute fittings -and the batteries can’t be below them. So the fittings must be moved. Then uninterrupted fuel lines can come back through the electrical compartment 😀👍

Lifepo4 is the only way to go nowadays. Half the weight twice the power and 10x the lifespan. Start battery should be the only AGM that you buy anymore. Alternator charging lithium is not hard you can add dc to dc charger or regulator for alternator. If you have an alternator that can produce 100amp you don’t need anything as most bms on lithium will only charge at 100amps. Currently on my boat I’ve got lifepo4 and I parallel connect them to AGM and charge from alternator had this setup 5yrs now. Currently I’m designing a 50amp 240v split phase setup and I’m going with Victron. 120amp alternator will work on lithium read battery and it will say it only accepts 100amps to charge.

Just to be sure it’s clear, LiFePO4 is lithium iron phosphate, not lithium “ion” phosphate. 😎 Lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries should be nowhere near a boat.

You are correct Sean Thanks 👍👍If you have been watching my channel you know each episode I intentionally make mistakes so uber-observant viewers like yourself can demonstrate their advanced abilities. 🐙😀 This week you are the most-best-observant-viewer! Definitely don’t want to blow yourself up 🤓
