My husband and I were fortunate enough to be able to pay off our mortgage early. We were both still working, and took the payment amount that we had been using to pay off our mortgage faster and we put it straight into investments. We were able to retire early because of almost 7 years of putting away what would have been our mortgage payment as well as maxing out our 401K/403B plans. Thankfully we were taught by both of our parents the value of living within our means. Thank you for your advice. I know it will help people. we are interested in investments that could set me up for retirement , I mean I've heard of people that netted hundreds of thousands during these crash, I listened to someone on a podcast who earned over $650K in less than a year, what's the strategy behind such returns?

Even with the right strategies and appropriate assets, investment returns can differ among investors. Recognizing the vital role of experience in investment success is crucial. Personally, I understood this significance and sought guidance from a market analyst, significantly growing my account to nearly a million. Strategically withdrawing profits just before the market correction, I'm now seizing buying opportunities once again.

Why would they think dropping anchor in an inlet was the answer 🤔🤔
@albertomorales9493
@albertomorales9493 Күн бұрын
From my boating experience, considering the drain plug was fine. The error was throwing the anchor in that churning tide of the inlet. I would have not dropped anchor, let the tide pull the boat out past the wave action slightly more into the bay and away from the waves. It would be ok to throw anchor in less choppy water. Essentially they got caught up in like a whirlpool effect similar to river rafting by the anchor holding them in place this indeed was captain error. Sure you can drop anchor but not in the middle of all that current of the inlet. Going with the water flow and let the boat ride high and float back out would have brought them to tranquil waters. Once out of those rapids even a jet ski could have towed them to the sandy shore to beach the boat without causing this disaster. Lack of common sense boating skills on behalf of the captain and crew caused this fiasco. I feel sorry for them and wish them well.

Their boat lost power & capsized in 3'-5' seas. We got 1 guy & the other boat got the other 2. About 1/2 mile offshore. We were headed out to go fishing & heard the distress call on the radio, just as we were going to turn around & go back in, because it was to rough. Huge Kudos to those guys that were there to help.

This. I've seen it happen so many times. What's worse is that they got hyper focused on the anchor and forgot about the hatches. With that mistake it only took 30 seconds for the bilge to go from having "a bit" of water in it to having a pools worth. One of the guys even stops, looks at the hatches, but goes back to focus on the wrong problem. STOP THE WATER FROM FLOODING THE BOAT. Get towed later. Dual automatic bilge pumps on separate circuits and keep the damn hatches closed. If they had left the hatches closed they could have been towed in. If they were taking on water get towed out of the inlet, around the rocks, and beach the damn boat. It's a pain in the ass to recover but way, way, way less of a problem then sinking it in the inlet.

Insurance job? That boat was worth maybe $15K on a good day. It's a very old boat with old engines. No bank would loan money for a boat that old with that value. Sure people try to insure cheap boats for a lot of money and that is certainly a possibility. But really would they spend $15K on a boat and insure it for $30K and risk their lives for a $15K payout? Not likely and you can bet if they did have it insured the insurance company will pick through this boats history with a fine tooth comb and discover it's actual value. I think they bought an old boat cheap, were not experienced and they made some mistakes. If we were talking about a new $200K boat I might agree. Might.....

Me and my family were there today, the whole reason the boat sunk was because both their engines went out. Right before they went out one guy said “whatever you do don’t let the engines go out” and he was right they went out. The tide was goin out pulling the boat out into the swells of the waves crashing into the stern causing flooding. Then it all went downhill from there. Once he put out his anchor it wasn’t catching due to the tides and waves. Super sad for them

I'm a life long boater, Haulover is my home boating area. I know the inlet can be rough for new boaters and I believe that was the case here. I first watched the land only based video of this and it looked like the boat was taking on water. They were making headway in the inlet. Even if there were no drain plug in all they had to do was keep the boat moving forward and most of the water would drain out even if not on full plane. Then I see the drone video. Now I am convinced they had a fuel issue that caused them to lose both engines, and at the worst possible time and place. Then they decided to pull the deck hatches up to investigate. That was major mistake #1. The next move would be the fatal one. #2 They decided to anchor for fear of hitting the rocks which is usually a good idea. #3, they left the deck hatches wide open while both tried to deal with the anchor. That combined with all the deck hatches open and that horribly open transom is what sealed their fate. The boat being pulled in reverse by the tide and those rollers gushing in that non existent transom and the open deck hatches did it. Had they deleted just one of the 3 mistakes they might have been able to save the boat. They needed some kind of transom gate to prevent the water from pouring in. Even a slid in piece of plywood would block 90 of the water from flowing in. The deck hatches closed and a working bilge pump could have saved the boat too. Major learning experience for these guys. They can get the boat fixed. Their first task after getting it running again should be closing that transom up.

Could be a combination of things the first would be drain plug then figure out why the captain stopped was it due to engine failure and to top it off the anchor is keeping the stern true with the waves thats where most of the weight is 2 out boards and every wave is slowly sinking that vessel dont know if the anchor would held but tie that sucker off instead trying to man handle gravity
@hogwild5844
@hogwild5844 5 күн бұрын
It wasnt engine failure. You can actually see as they start dropping anchor the motors were peeing water out the water cooling outlet. It looked like it sank as waves were coming over the rear bulkhead filling the boat at a high rate of speed. Not sure if maybe they had a steering control issue or maybe they had water ingress from something but if they had lost a drain plug the smart move would have been to either keep speed up and get it to somewhere they could recover it before it sank or spin round keep a high speed and beach it on the nearby sandy beach other side of the inlet.

As the boat rolls over, there appears to be a hole on the centerline underbody near the bow. At 6:22 it appears to spray out water/mist, probably from upward air pressure trying to rush out. That would explain it sinking so fast (too fast for a plug). Earlier, as it flooded, the water could have drained aft causing the boat to be stern heavy when it was initially sinking. In this style of boat, would be very hard to find the hole while it was flooding. That is a lot of fuel and oil pollution.

Ranger boats used to cut their boat in half (into two fully separated pieces) and both halves would float, as a way to advertise the positive flotation (core areas filled with foam) that was built into their boat hulls. ...Then there's boats like this, that sink under the waves like a stone when you get enough water in them. Fine one minute, then 20 minutes later the boat is gone. I prefer the Ranger type construction, where you can sit on or cling to the fully "swamped" hull pieces yet still be floating for hours and hours if necessary, while you wait to be rescued.

I think he opened the hatches to check for fuel system issues. It looked like he was fiddling with a fuel line. I also think you're right, that the boat sank so quickly because the open hatch allowed water to freely enter the bilge rather than most of it just sliding back out the open transom. And I think he left the hatch open because he became distracted by the jet skier attempting to render assistance.

@warpedweirdo
@warpedweirdo 4 күн бұрын
My theory: I think the sinking could have been avoided had the captain closed the hatch. I don't know if anchoring was a good idea or not. In the absence of outside assistance, the boat might have taken waves broadside, maybe capsized, were the anchor not thrown. Maybe. I don't know. More detail: Engines stopped running. The captain suspected fuel issue, opened bilge hatch to inspect fuel lines for kinks or something. Anchor was dropped in hopes of preventing the boat from entering the rapids. Anchor didn't catch well enough, and forced the boat to enter the rapids stern-first. The captain, distracted by jet skiers trying to offer assistance, forgot about and never closed the bilge hatch. Water came over the transom, straight into the open bilge, unimpeded. Much water was captured by the bilge instead of merely sloshing back out over the open transom. Jet ski could have been used to pull the bow around to face the waves were the anchor not set. But the forces on the anchor line were too great to allow the anchor to be retrieved by hand, and the guy pulling on the rope either didn't have a sharp knife handy or didn't think of cutting the line. This all happened very quickly Relevant time stamps: 0:18 - Bilge access hatches are open. Captain is looking in, messing with a hose in the vicinity of a filter. Can't really tell, but bilge looks dry. Boat isn't listing. Swim step is still well above the water. 0:27 - Anchor dropped. Bilge hatch still open. 0:32 - Bilge hatch still open. 0:41, 0:43, 0:47, 0:59 - Water over the stern 1:00 - Captain fails to notice the bilge hatch is still open and water is entering the bilge. Waves continue washing over the stern and entering the bilge. 1:08 - Lots of water over the stern. I think this is the point where flooding becomes critical; the stern is no longer floating high enough to keep the boat afloat.
