Great hack! I would say to everyone out there doing this to refrain from clamping anywhere on the piston arm that enters the grease cylinder. This can put dents/knicks in the arm which will rub/damage the o-ring keeping water and debris out of the grease. Which will then lead to more rust and seizing of the steering ram. So just clamp as close to the bolt hole as you can.

Hey great video. I did this repair using your video after I launched off a beach in NZ with my family on board. We continued the trip. I pre-checked fuel, batteries, radio, navigator, motor tilt, motor start, bilge pump, but did not think of a steering check. Anyway, a couple of additions to your video. Can urn it with a screw driver in the bolt-hole if you don't have vice grips on board. . Also can use a hammer (dive weight) on the screw driver that is in the bolt hole.

After 4-6 hours of fucking with the same exact issue... including hooking of a hose to go over where the lil wiper coup goes and filling the tube with hydro oil and connecting 150psi to the hose blowing junk out of the other end it still wouldn't budge... 35 seconds with some chain pliers its moving... I normally don't comment but I had to say thanks... THANK YOU!

@@jdietz8026 My engine is a 2005 115 Merc. I have 2 tips for you: 1. Run your engine often, at least once a month or two and turn your steering while doing that or 2. Change from a cable steering system to a hydraulic system. My steering froze up again about a year plus ago, I guess the grease in the cable section dried up, so I replaced it with a hydraulic system. My steering will never get frozen again!!!
