I replaced mine with K & N flame arrestor filters. $89 US, and since I have K & N filters on most of my cars, I have the cleaning system.

Thanks for the tip, have K&N in the motorcycle.. $105usd for my Volvo's... might have to give them a look

Mine came up nice and clean, so no need to replace.

I am with Jim Van Eaton, the K&N air filters flame arrestors are made specifically to replace the expensive parts for mercruiser engines. Sounds like a much cheaper alternative than putting back on dirty air filters. As well cleaner air filters would lead to increased fuel economy. Which sounds crazy on a boat but every little bit helps increase efficiency.

Exactly.

Love your boat, thank you for the video. I have a 99 270 Sundancer with MPI 7.4 Bravo 3. Docking isn't as easy as yours but I don't think I'd be able to trailer a 330 like yours without permits. We go to Bayfield Wisconsin (lake Superior) and the scenery is absolutely stunning! You have been doing a good job at it but please take some more geography footage too of your area when you get out please 😁 your friend from America 🇺🇲

I’ve had three boats with those exact engines (I’m currently also running a ‘98 330 dancer). I never in a million years would have thought anyone could charge that much $$ for those. And , totally agree torx are stupid, ESPECIALLY on that application. Like those covers are a real tamper hazard 🙄

$500 each?! That's crazy but there is no need to replace them - they're not really a filter but a flame arrester. If the engine backfires, it keeps the flame from getting past the inlet and starting a fire. Your cleaning job is similar to the procedure in the shop manual. Interesting how the design has changed from the round style they used for years on the carbureted and TBI engines - almost like the automotive air filters only smaller. Barbron has been the vendor for the flame arresters for decades.

Hi,$900? Geez! Anyway fyi those cover screws are by torx, tamperproof. Thx for your videos, always entertaining! In a good way, jojo

You might want to use a GOPRO with the headband so you can have both hands free to work. Just a thought...

Did you find foam pieces inside your manifold when removing your air filter flame arrestor? Right above the intake flap?

Nope.

@@BoatingWithBoogaboo Thank you for the quick reply. Do you experience shift clunk? When shifting into gear? My idle rpm is at 900. I cleaned my throttle body. And going to replace my IAC valve to see if it lowers idle rpm.

That's a lot of Coronas!!! I was thinking the same thing a little bit of brake cleaner a little bit of dawn washing out with a little bit of water good to go

I noticed you were only using one hand. I thought to myself "that's a really new screwdriver to drop down in the bilge". That would have been my luck anyway.

I've acquired a small monkey to retrieve stuff from the bilge, so no worries ;-)

Folks annoyed with the torx head screws have never worked in assembly production. Those heads are very friendly to assembly tooling where indexing and torque control is important.
@BoatingWithBoogaboo4 жыл бұрын
Perhaps, but very unfriendly to those of us who have to fix things. But then again, engineers never think of that side of the equation. . .

@@BoatingWithBoogaboo I'm sorry, that's simply not true. I don't know about Sea Ray, but the auto companies I worked for have an organization called "service engineering" that reviews the serviceability on each and every part release. They don't always get it right and sometimes there are many underlying reasons for a design, like cost, regulation, safety, function, etc. Yes it would be nice to have every part attached with Velcro for quick change convenience but then reality sets in.

Torx screw, someone's attempt to make the Phillips screw better, because pride wouldn't let them accept the Canadian invented Robertson screw :)

You should get a GoPro head strap for these jobs. I love the repair vids, but it is painful watching you work with one hand.

Yep, those starscrews are one of the worst inventions I’ve ever seen. I have them on my jeep wrangler top as well. I think they make them just to make it more difficult to service things yourself.
