When security guard Richard Jewell became a suspect in the Centennial Olympic Park bombing during the 1996 Olympics, sports broadcaster Bob Costas was one of the few to defend him. And Costas says Jewell didn't forget.

Perfectly ok and reasonable for the FBI to treat the finder of the bomb as a suspect. The person who reports the fire or finds the body is almost always a suspect. The investigation needs to be fair though. The investigation should be as much about clearing the suspect as it is about conviction. That makes it a search for the truth. If you are innocent you may very well be able to help investigators do this. That is in fact ultimately how Richard was cleared. The big problem was that certain individuals broke ranks and spoke to the media who then acted horrendously. This is pretty typical of media conduct unfortunately. They will pay sources to provide information even though they know absolutely that the source is doing the wrong thing. They then assert their right to keep the source anonymous and at the same time deny responsibility for the content of their own report. They say “We didn’t say Richard Jewell was guilty we just said the FBI are treating him as the prime suspect”

You always hear Prosecutors and Detectives talk about how a criminal had "no remorse" for their actions. They say it like it's the most evil thing in the world. But, the funny thing is when law enforcement fucks up, they *NEVER* show any remorse. They're always cowards. *ALWAYS* They never issue an apology. DNA evidence will have exonerated a person who spent 30 years in prison for a crime they didn't commit, and yet when the district attorney is interviewed they always say how they got the right man & they should still be in prison. Stuff like Richard Jewell makes me lose a tremendous amount of respect for law enforcement. You cannot pick & chose when to have honor. You have honor all the time or not at all.
