I remember watching that game Carey made the Jose Vicaino comment on WGN when I was a kid. Even though I was too young to understand what was going on, I could tell something was wrong based on Steve Stone's prolonged, awkward silence. There were a lot of moments like that later in Carey's career. He was messing up player's names so often, Stone just gave up on even trying to correct him.

But Bob never shared the other advice Harry gave him, "Whenever you switch from one team to another, like I did from the Sox to the Cubs, make sure you appropriate everything you did with the Sox and take it over to the Cubs and all those clueless drunks will think you and the Cubs created it all!" Man, Caray/Piersall was the greatest MLB announcing team ever, or certainly right up there. Caray goes to the Nort' Side, and becomes an instant caricature of his former glory. And of course, his glory years as Cardinals announcer. Too bad things get ruined.

Bob Costas took Harry’s “what’s it all about” philosophy to heart. Especially the “bullshit” part. Costas is very entertaining and a great storyteller. However, many of his stories are complete fabrications known as bullshit. My buddy knows Costas quite well and Bob is full of baloney, often, but in an endearing sort of way.

Sorry, Ferrell fans, his imitation of Caray was overly broad. ham-handed and unfunny. And while Caray's vocal style was best captured by John Caponera, Costas's impression is great for a guy whose talent is elsewhere, and the Vizcaíno anecdote priceless, like Caray himself.
